Glastonbury Festival has reportedly been plunged into chaos after talks with Madonna are said to have fallen through due to a disagreement over her requested fee.

Organisers were hoping to secure Madonna for the 2024 Sunday night 'legends' slot but the plans have seemingly been put on hold after they refused to pay what she wanted for the performance. According to a source Madonna wanted enough cash to recreate the set she currently performs on her Celebration Tour.

However, the price of the set and dancers brings the total too high for Emily Eavis to commit to paying for the live set to come to Worth Farm.

A Glastonbury source told The Mail on Sunday: "To be honest it's been a real blow not being able to nail down a deal with Madonna."

Emily was so keen to have her play the legend slot. After she saw Madonna's tour in London in October she raved about her on Instagram, something she rarely does without Glastonbury in mind. But everyone knows that after last year, and the criticism over the gender balance, we've got to have big name females heading the line-up. Dua Lipa is a real catch. Now we need another.

"There is still some hope it an be resurrected but it's pretty unlikely. There are money issues at the root of this, it's a real shame," the source added. It has been reported that organisers are now hoping to secure Rihanna for the slot. They originally showed an interest in her performing last year before it was revealed she was pregnant.

Friday and Saturday will see Dua Lipa and Coldplay headline the famous Pyramid stage respectively. It's thought a female name is wanted for the Sunday night slot after criticism over a lack of female headliners at this year's event.

At the time festival co-organiser Emily said: "I've always been really passionate about gender split [on festival line-ups] and I think, actually, our problem was that I'd been so outspoken about it that having a year when there wasn't a female sent people a bit mad - or some people."

The festival was headlined by Elton John, the Arctic Monkeys and Guns N' Roses this year. During an appearance on Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw's podcast Emily previously hinted that a 'really big' female US solo artist had shown interest in performing. She said: "As always, there is much speculation and excitement about who is playing at Glastonbury. We are working on the line-up day and night at the moment, but it's still changing every day."

The Mirror has contacted Glatonbury and Madonna reps for comment.
