Little hero, 6, saves mum's life with 999 call after she collapses with seizure
A hero six-year-old saved his mum's life when she had a seizure - by following instructions she taught him using a song about ambulances.
Teddy Wyatt called 999 after hearing shouting and strange noises coming from Emily Wyatt's bedroom. His 27-year-old mum has epilepsy and was suffering from a severe episode. Brave Teddy stayed on the phone while paramedics talked him through what to do - and even made sure his two-year-old brother's stair gate was shut so he was safe.
Emily says her son knew to call the emergency services after she taught him the lyrics to the Ambulance Song when he was aged three. The educational tune describes how an ambulance can help in a challenging situation. Emily, from Birmingham, said: "Teddy was so, so amazing. I’m so proud of my little boy - he dialled 999 straight away.
“I’ve been playing him the Ambulance Song since he was three and drilling into him what to do if I start to have a seizure. I suffer from about four seizures a year but it’s never happened when it’s just been me and the kids. And I usually can sense when it’s coming. The paramedics said he was amazing the whole time, staying on the phone and unlocking the door.
“He even went and made sure his little brother Reginald was safely in bed and stairgate was closed so he wouldn’t get hurt.”

Teddy called the ambulance (SWNS)Teddy was born prematurely at 26 weeks. He has autism and is having ADHD consultations, and is being taught at a special education school. Emily, a former carer, also has type one diabetes. She looks after Teddy and Reginald, and lives 10 minutes away from their father Chris Wyatt, 28, a bricklayer.
Emily has suffered from epilepsy and diabetes for 12 years after a traumatic experience in her childhood, and she takes daily medication, including insulin, to keep it at bay. While she has around four to five seizures a year, they’ve always been during the day and the mum has been able to ring someone to come and help her and the kids as she recognises the dizzy feeling setting in.
Teddy kept Reginald safe too (SWNS)However, she says the latest seizure - which lasted for over three hours - has been the worst yet and even caused her hyperthermia. Emily is nearly fully recovered after a day in hospital but Teddy is still constantly worried for his mum - and has been checking on her all the time.
She said: “When I didn’t respond to him last night he came running in to ask if I was okay. He’s such a superstar. I’m so glad I drilled the number 999 into him, he will definitely never forget it now."
The Ambulance Song, released by US children's entertainer Blippi in 2020, has been viewed more than 10million times on YouTube. Its lyrics include: "You can call it up in emergencies; The siren turns on and it races to the scene; Some are yellow and green, some red, white, or blue; But they're all here to help me and you."
