Jill Biden's Christmas White House featuring a New York City based dance troupe has divided viewers with some finding it 'incredible' but others finding it 'freaky' and 'bizarre.'

The video features members of the dance troupe Dorrance Dancers doing a tap dancing interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite.

The group are in one of the White House's hallways decorated in a candy theme. It leads to the Blue Room where the main tree has been set up since 1961.

Sharing the video on social media, the First Lady wrote: "A bit of magic, wonder, and joy brought to you by the talented tappers of Dorrance Dance, performing their playful interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite. Enjoy!"

The theme for this year's decoration is 'Magic, Wonder and Joy.' It marks the Bidens' third holiday period in the White House.

But, somewhat unsurprisingly for anything made by a Biden, the video proved divisive. Some of the viewers loved it but others were more sceptical.

Right-wing blogger Ian Miles Cheong described it as giving off a "Hunger games aesthetic." Another more critical user wrote: "You are so strange. Bizarre. Freaky."

Yet another user wrote: "Desperately pandering. SO.MUCH.CRINGE."

Many of the right-wing commentators pined for Melania Trump's era of decorating the White House. This is despite her famously once saying: "Who gives as f*** about the Christmas stuff and decorations?"

Others loved it though. One wrote: "That's incredible! The post brought a smile to my face. Hats off to Dorrance Dance and their hard work - I'm sure their interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite will continue to bring joy and wonder to the audience."

Another wrote: "Everyone should thank Dr. Jill Biden for bringing Christmas back to the White House after Melania trashed it."

In November, Dr Biden said she wanted everyone who visited the White House over the Christmas period to feel like a kid again. Around 100,000 visitors are expected to visit.

Dr Biden said: "Each room is designed to capture this pure, unfiltered delight and imagination." She hopes it will let visitors "see this time of year through the wondrous, sparkling eyes of children."

White House aides said the oversized decorations were meant to inspire the feelings of awe felt by children during the holidays.

The theme contains nods to the 200th anniversary of the release of the poem and book known as 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.'

The Library of Congress provided different editions of the book from the past 200 years that are on display in protective cases.

The traditional gingerbread White House includes a large sugar replica of the book opened to a page that says "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night."

The first members of the public to see the decorations were National Guard families, who joined the first lady as part of her Joining Forces initiative to support military families.
