Celebrities are urging sports fans to have urged the public to vote for their footballing heroes ahead of the prestigious Women's Football Awards returning next year.

The 2024 Women’s Football Awards will bring together the biggest names from the sport at a major ceremony hosted Eni Aluko and Jamie Carragher in London on May 30th. Next year's swanky bash follows an inaugural ceremony recognising the achievements of women’s football at every level in the UK taking place in London earlier this year.

The Women's Football Awards is the biggest awards event in women's football, celebrating the players, people, brands and organisations contributing to the phenomenal growth of the sport. Former England stars Aluko and Carragher return as hosts following the success of the first event in 2023 which celebrated grassroots greatness, the organisations working to grow the game and the superstar players on the pitch.

In 2023, then-Manchester United forward Alessia Russo scooped the prestigious Player of the Year Award before her high-profile transfer to Arsenal, while Barcelona’s Keira Walsh and Chelsea and England star Lauren James also took home major accolades. Former England captain Carol Thomas was honoured with a special recognition award for her efforts advancing the game after the FA ban on women's football was lifted in 1971 after 50 years.

In other awards, broadcaster Karen Carney scooped the Lifetime Achievement Award and household name brands such as Three Mobile, VISA and Arnold Clark were also recognised for their investment into the women's game, while Manchester United Women were named Best Club of the Year.

With the 2024 awards taking place in less than six months, with nominations now open to the public, key categories include Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Women's Football Broadcaster and Journalist of the Year, Football Business of the Year, World Cup Player of the Year and the Off The Pitch award

Women’s football fans can nominate their heroes of the game between now and February, when the final shortlist will be unveiled ahead of the star-studded awards gala on May 30th following the culmination of the Women's Super League campaign.

Eni Aluko, who made 102 appearances for the Lionesses and returns as co-host of the Women's Football Awards in 2024, and her co-host, Liverpool Football Club legend and Sky Sports presenter Jamie Carragher, have both spoken out to urge the public to get voting ahead of the ceromony.

"This is Britain and Europe's biggest award event for women's football and is returning at a very exciting moment for the game," Aluko says. "The Women's Football Awards World Cup follows a fantastic World Cup tournament, a thrilling start to the women's football season and while the phenomenal growth of our game continues.

"This is the only awards event for women's football where the public decides the shortlist and so we're encouraging as many people to take part and nominate now. The Women's Football Awards is an inspirational event and will recognise those on and off the pitch who are raising the bar for women's football."

Her co-host Carragher adds: "The Women's Football Awards is special because it not only celebrates the success on the pitch but shines a light on the people and organisations working behind-the scenes- to push the growth of the game forward. I am excited to be involved again and encourage the public to nominate now."

The Women's Football Awards 2024 is held in partnership with SHEIN, VISA and TikTok. The shortlist will be released in February 2024. The public can cast their votes at www.womensfootballawards.com.
