Universal Studios Japan guests left hanging 150ft in air after ride breakdown

Thrill-seekers who visited the Universal Studios park in Japan were left hanging upside down 150ft in the air after a ride malfunction.

Shocking footage captured the moment 32 riders were dangling on the Flying Dinosaur attraction after the ride broke down mid-way through in Osaka. The theme park said the coaster made an emergency stop as the guests reached the peak height of the ride shortly before 11 am this morning. The guests had no choice but to embark on a terrifying evacuation from the ride.

Universal Studios Japan has since confirmed that all the passengers were successfully rescued by workers and were taken to safety with an emergency set of stairs, reports Asahi newspaper. In total, the evacuation process took around 45 minutes. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident.

The theme park told Nikkei newspaper: "A sensor that detects abnormalities was activated and the system stopped." Engineers rushed to the scene and conducted tests on the ride for an hour and a half before they approved for the coaster to resume letting people on.

The daring coaster, which is inspired by Jurassic Park, sees visitors suspended in the air before a dino glides with them through the air. The popular ride was established in 2016. However, this isn't the first time it has been at the centre of incidents at the park.

In May 2018, 64 riders were put in a similar situation and were left face down for up to two hours whilst 100ft in the air. The amusement park confirmed two carriages had suddenly stalled mid-way through the ride, reports Daily Mail.

The thrill seekers were midway through the Flying Dinosaur ride when the coaster stopped. At the time, the amusement park said the two carriages stalled midway through the ride. The theme park amasses over ten million visitors each year and is one of four Universal Studio resorts in the world.
