As we count down the days until Christmas, many of us will be wondering what films and shows we can sink our teeth into over the festive season. Thanks to Sky, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, with brand-new comedy specials, festive dramas and Hollywood blockbusters all launching throughout December.

Sky has already premiered some top films this month, including new Natalie Portman drama May December and Richard Curtis comedy Genie. Sky is also home to some Christmas classics like Elf and is gearing up to launch the all-new fourth season of True Detective in January.

Silent Night

From Face/Off director John Woo comes this gritty action flick starring Suicide Squad’s Joel Kinnaman as a grieving father who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve. While recovering from a wound that cost him his voice, he makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death.

Silent Night premieres on December 23 on Sky Cinema.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The Heist Before Christmas

In this Sky Original Christmas Special, 12-year-old Mikey Collins (Bamber Todd) – who’s dirt-poor and hates Christmas – finds two Santa Clauses in the woods. One (James Nesbitt) has just pulled off a bank heist and is on the run with the cash, while the other Santa (Timothy Spall) claims to have fallen out of his sleigh.

Mikey has no time for the second guy – he’s well past believing any of the Jingle Bells, spirit-of-the-season rubbish, even if his little brother insists on treating the old man like a superstar. Instead, Mikey’s determined to get his hands on the bank-robber’s cash, convinced that this is the answer to giving his family the Christmas they all crave.

But as Mikey risks everything for the loot, he comes to realise that maybe the spirit of Christmas is alive after all.

The Heist Before Christmas airs at 8pm on Christmas Eve on Sky Max.

A Very Brassic Christmas

In this extra special Brassic episode, the gang plan to kick back, relax and enjoy life to the max. But then comes the inevitable: a call from Dr Chris saying his aunt is in crisis and needs looking after and a robbery at Tyler’s school has ruined his nativity.

The gang must now bring their A-game and help save Christmas the Brassic way. Bring on a heist at a winter wonderland, a fight with a man called Dick Dolphin (Greg Davies), babysitting Chris’s Aunt (Imelda Staunton) and the best Nativity ever staged.

A Very Brassic Christmas airs at 9pm on December 21 on Sky Max.

A League of Their Own Christmas Special

In this Christmas special, Romesh and the gang are joined for some festive fun and games by Manchester United and France legend Patrice Evra, plus award winning comedian Rob Beckett. Together, the boys visit Brentford FC to cook up a Christmas lunch for the players.

Dynamo is Dead

Rob and Rom Vs. Lapland

This Christmas, comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan are heading to Santa Claus Village in Lapland to see if they have what it takes to join his troupe of merry Elves. The lads will be helping out with the Reindeer, writing replies to Christmas letters from around the world and taking on a “traditional” Elf Baptism of an ice dip, all before meeting Saint Nick himself to find out whether they have made the cut as one of his Elves.

Rob & Rom Vs. Lapland airs at 9pm on December 17 on Sky Max.

Never Mind the Buzzcocks: Christmas Special

Much loved comedy panel show Never Mind the Buzzcocks is giving fans a Christmas gift in the form of a one-off Christmas special hot off the heels of a hilarious third series. With host Greg Davies and celeb guests including Harry Hill, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson, plus guest appearances from DJ Luck & MC Neat, Paul Potts and Ritchie Neville of Five.

Never Mind the Buzzcocks: Christmas Special airs at 9pm on December 19 on Sky Max.

The Unofficial Science of Die Hard & The Unofficial Science of Indiana Jones

This Christmas, Chris Ramsey, Paul Chowdry and engineer Zoe Laughlin will scientifically assess stunts from much-loved action film, Die Hard. From rooftop escapes to walking over shattered glass, Chris and Paul will put stunts to the test to discover how to tackle them in real life.

Along the way, the pair will set out to answer the biggest question of all: is Die Hard a Christmas film? Sky also brings The Unofficial Science of Indiana Jones, which will see Greg James and Maisie Adam team up to take on family favourite adventure franchise.

The pair will learn how to dodge poisonous darts, outrun giant boulders, and survive fireballs. Whilst both duos explore the stunts of the films, Alex Brooker returns to explore the sets and meet iconic cast members to hear their favourite memories.

The Unofficial Science of Die Hard airs at 9pm on December 23 on Sky Max, while The Unofficial Science of Indiana Jones airs at 9pm on New Year’s Day on Sky Max. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is streaming on Disney+ from December 15.

Based on a True Story

This dark comedic thriller centres around a realtor, a former tennis star and a plumber who seize a unique opportunity to capitalise on America’s obsession with true crime. The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco stars as Ava Bartlett, alongside Air’s Chris Messina and Thirteen Lives’ Tom Bateman.

Based on a True Story airs at 9pm on December 29 on Sky Max.
