Touching tributes have poured in for Andre Braugher, star of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, who died at the age of 61 on Monday.

The American actor, best known for his scene-stealing role as Captain Raymond Holt in the hit cop comedy, passed away after a brief illness, his publicist confirmed. Braugher, who rose to fame in 90s drama Homicide: Life on the Street, winning an Emmy for his portrayal of Detective Frank Pembleton, has been remembered by an array of castmates from across his rich career.

Marc Evan Jackson, who played Holt’s husband Kevin on the show, posted a photograph of them together on set, with the caption: “O Captain. My Captain.” Meanwhile, Reed Diamond, who appeared alongside Braugher in Homicide, recalled their time together at Juilliard: “As a first-year student… I was plunked into a spear carrying role in his fourth year production of Othello. His performance in the title role was astounding, and I marveled at it every year night. Several years later I followed him onto Homicide, and was blown away by his power and talent.”

Braugher is survived by his actress wife Ami Brabson, who he married in 1991, and their three children, John Wesley, Michael and Isaiah. Brabson met Braugher on the set of Homicide, playing his on-screen partner.
