Parents are often criticised for naming their babies things that are too ‘unique’, with many worrying how it will affect them later in life with jobs and relationships. However, one woman has revealed that she’s the only one in her family with a ‘boring’ name and yearns to have a more alternative moniker.

Sharing her problems on social media, the 22-year-old explained that she has nine siblings, all of whom have unique names but she is called… Michelle. Feeling like she’s got a ‘boring’ name compared to everyone else, she added that as part of her ‘rebrand,’ she would really like to change it to something in keeping to match her twin brother, Lake.

Mentioning that she’s open to all suggestions, other than Brooke, Michelle also revealed that her mum wanted to name her River but was talked out of it by her aunt. She wrote: “I just talked to my mom about my name, and why I had such a different name than the rest of the kids, which I had never really brought up before, and she told me she actually wanted to name me River.

“She didn’t because her sister told her kids would make fun of twins named River and Lake. She almost started crying and by the end of the call she was calling me River.” Despite being fond of River as a potential name change, Michelle still asked readers for suggestions in keeping with the water theme.

After reading her post, Redditors rushed to share their options with her. Someone suggested: “Mica - like the minerals/rock. It would be close enough to your given name that it wouldn’t cause whiplash for those who know you. But it also gives you a unique, nature-themed nickname.” Michelle appeared keen on this option, and replied: “Omg I think this is perfect”.

With over 1,400 comments, Michelle was inundated with suggestions. Revealing the ones she liked best, she shared that: “Mica, River, Delta, Ever, Lemon, and Navy” were all top contenders.

Despite the majority of people getting on board with the exciting name change, one mean person replied: “You have no personality of your own? I would never change my name just to match someone. I own my current name and am proud of it. I'm not surprised if in the future you'll resort to changing your appearance under the knife to follow the trends. This is not healthy.”

Other people drew comparisons to actor Joaquin Phoenix. One person wrote: “I like River because is reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix and his siblings. Joaquin went by 'Leaf' for a time because all of his siblings had nature names and he felt left out.

Indeed, according to IMDB, “at the age of four, he decided that he wanted a more earthy name, like his elder siblings River and Rain, so while he was raking leaves with his father he decided on Leaf.”

In many of his childhood roles he was credited as Leaf Phoenix but in the early 1990s, he took back his birth name of Joaquin Rafael.
