Liverpool are set for a big week of action, with Jurgen Klopp's side travelling to Belgium to face Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday before hosting rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

They have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League, meaning Klopp is expected to rest some of his stars ahead of the clash with United. Liverpool are now top of the Premier League, having beaten Crystal Palace 2-1 over the weekend.

Klopp fires Chelsea dig

During a Q&A in front of Liverpool fans, Klopp poked fun at the fact he missed out on signing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, with the pair ultimately ending up at Chelsea.

"The summer we had with a few strange things happen in the transfer market but here between us I can say, 'My god, we were lucky'," he said. "We didn't know that in the moment, to be honest, we didn't realise in that moment.

"But I am really happy it worked out like that. You never know if it will work out like that."

Robertson return date

Andy Robertson has been out of action since dislocating his shoulder during a Euro 2024 qualifier between Scotland and Spain in October, forcing the left-back to undergo surgery.

He has since missed Liverpool's last eight league games, but could be back in the new year. According to the Daily Mail, Robertson is back at Liverpool's training ground undergoing rehab and is 'making daily progress'.

The report states that he is on course for a return in January, but Liverpool are being cautious about throwing him into contact training as they do not want to risk him aggravating the injury.

Salah misses out on award

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been named the men's African Footballer of the Year, beating Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi to the prestigious award.

Osimhen won after firing Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years, having scored 26 goals in 32 games last season. "It is a dream come true," the 24-year-old said at the ceremony which was held in Morocco.

"I have to thank everybody who has helped me on this journey, and all Africans who have helped to put me on the map despite my faults." It is the first time Osimhen has won the award, while Salah has previously won it twice in 2017 and 2018.
