Royal rows influence 2023 baby names as Harry drastically falls off charts

The top 100 boys' and girls' names of the year have been revealed - and Harry has taken a big nosedive.

Choosing the perfect name for your little one is a task some parents spend years thinking about. But names go in and out of popularity and there are a number of influences which affect which names your will hear in the playground.

Babycentre has revealed that after tens of thousands of parents' names were studied, a number of '90s names are back on parents' radar as well as names associated with witchcraft. Interestingly, with all the royal news from the year, the experts noted that there didn't seem to be much of an increase in the use of names from Britain's most famous family - like Lilibet, William, Kate, Harry, Meghan or Charlie.

The once-trendy baby names Harry and Meghan have declined in popularity in Britain, according to the leading pregnancy and parenting website. Harry has been a popular name for years but it has not made the top 30 baby name trends for 2023.

The data comes after a royal feud in the Royal household - which erupted more than two years ago - resurfaced recently when Omid Scobie's explosive book Endgame dragged King Charles and the Princess of Wales into the race row.

However, Harry's name, landing 31st place, does beat future King William's which Babycentre say is the 50th most popular. Charlie - a nod to King Charles - did also make the list at number 13.

The name Archie ranks in at 17th most popular boys' baby name on the list, while George rakes in the top 10 - at number eight. Katherine nor Kate made the list, and neither did Elizbeth. Depsite the sad death of Queen Elizabeth II last year, there hasn't been any increase on full year data.

While fewer parents are choosing royal-inspired names, they may be opting for names from their favourite 2023 films. Halle surged in the charts following the release of The Little Mermaid with Halle Bailey. Superhero actor names also went flying as Marvel continued to dominate screens.

Henry (Cavill, Captain American) got close to the top 10 as well as Tommy (Young) and Logan (Wolverine) broke into the top 40 and top 50. Popular names including Olivia, Muhammed, Isla, Theo, Amelia, and Noah continue to dominate the charts.
