Women's FA Cup fourth round draw as Newcastle and minnows Moneyfields learn fate
Third-tier Newcastle United will travel to Manchester United in the standout tie of the Women's FA Cup fourth round.
The Magpies, managed by Becky Langley, are top of the National League North and will now have to chance to cause a famous upset against the likes of Mary Earps, Ella Toone and Geyse in the New Year.
All 12 top-flight WSL clubs enter at this stage of the competition, with holders Chelsea hosting West Ham in a London derby at Kingsmeadow. Meanwhile, Championship side Watford are rewarded with a glamour trip to record holders Arsenal, who have lifted the cup on 14 occasions. All ties are set to be played on January 14.
Moneyfields, the lowest ranked team left in the cup from the fourth tier National League Division One South West, will travel to London City Lionesses. Championship side Durham are at home to 2020 winners Manchester City. Aston Villa host WSL rivals Everton, while Bristol City will face high flying Liverpool in the other all-WSL ties.
Newcastle reached the fourth round after thrashing Stoke City 5-0 at Gateshead International Stadium. They will now be rewarded with a trip to Leigh Sports Village to face Marc Skinner's team, who were only narrowly beaten in the final at Wembley last year.
Earps reacts to FIFA Best nomination and on season so far with Man UtdChelsea defeated United in the Red Devils first major cup final, after Sam Kerr struck a second half winner at Wembley. The FA has already announced a new three-year deal which sees Adobe take over as title sponsor for the Women’s FA Cup. This year, the competition boasts a doubled prize pot, going from £3million to £6m.
Hampshire-based Moneyfields reached the fourth round by defeating fifth tier Millwall. Their reward is a tie against Championship side London City, who coincidentally broke away from Millwall back in 2019. The draw also features a midlands derby with third tier Derby County facing WSL outfit Leicester City.
Two third round ties, Hull versus Wolves and Luton's clash with Keynsham Town, were postponed at the weekend and will be rescheduled for a later date.
