Two of Ryan O'Neal's children have paid tribute to their late father following his death, with it having been suggested that he's reunited with the late Farrah Fawcett in the afterlife.

It's been announced that Ryan - who's known for his roles in films such as Love Story (1970) and What's Up, Doc? (1972) - died at the age of 82 on Friday. The late actor's death has prompted tributes, including from some of his own family.

Among them has been his daughter Tatum O'Neal, 60. Ryan and fellow actor Tatum - who's the eldest of his four kids - had worked together over the years, including both starring in the film Paper Moon (1973). It led to Tatum winning an Academy Award and he had a Golden Globe nomination.

Her comments came after her younger brother Patrick O'Neal, 56, had announced their father's death in a post on Instagram. He shared an emotional tribute, with him having issued a lengthy statement on the platform about Ryan.

Patrick wrote: "So this is the toughest thing I've ever had to say but here we go. My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would us." He went on to say Ryan was his "hero".

The sports commentator said: "[He] has always been my hero. I looked up to him and he was always bigger than life." Patrick also wrote about his father's career, including noting that Ryan had starred on ABC soap opera Peyton Place.

He described his late father as a "Hollywood legend" and said in a subsequent post: "He was so skilled at his craft, worked so hard, and just loved acting plain and simple. [...] I hope he felt proud of his career but he was very humble."

Patrick continued by saying that Ryan was "as generous as they come" and the "funniest person in any room". He added: "And the most handsome clearly, but also the most charming. Lethal combo. He loved to make people laugh."

He also commented: "As my father, he was second to none. The best and most loving and supportive dad, and I am just so lucky to have had him. [...] If I lacked confidence, he gave me his. And he had so much confidence. I know I made him proud, and that fills my heart. He was my biggest fan."

Patrick later wrote: "Ryan made such an impact and this will be difficult without him. This is and will be a huge void in our lives. And his dogs Mozart and Raven, who he loved dearly, are missing him very much. They were inseparable."

Towards the end of the statement, Patrick referenced Ryan's long-term relationship with late actor Farrah. He wrote in one post: "Ryan never bragged. But he has bragging rights in Heaven. Especially when it comes to Farrah."

Ryan's son continued on the platform this week: "Everyone had the poster, he had the real McCoy. And now they meet again. Farrah and Ryan. He has missed her terribly." Patrick added: "What an embrace that must be. Together again."

Ryan and Farrah are said to have begun their relationship in 1979, meeting through her then-husband Lee Majors, now 84, whom she is said to have separated from that year. Farrah and Lee are understood to have got divorced in 1982.

She was in a relationship with Ryan for almost two decades until their separation in 1997. During their relationship, the pair - who never married each other- welcomed son Redmond O'Neal, now 38. He's the youngest of Ryan's kids.

The former couple are said to have reconciled in 2001 after Ryan was diagnosed with leukemia. He's said to have been by her side after she was herself diagnosed with anal cancer five years later. Farrah died, aged 62, in 2009.

Their relationship over the years is said to have been tumultuous, with there having been claims that he was unfaithful. Looking back on the relationship, Ryan once said: "I would have been much kinder, more understanding, more mature. I'd lose some of the savagery. I don't know how she got cancer; maybe some of it was me."

Ryan paid tribute to Farrah - who's best known for her role in Charlie's Angels - for Valentine's Day this year. Alongside a photo of a rose on her Hollywood Walk of Fame star, he wrote in a post on Instagram: "My forever Valentine…"

He had spoken about Farrah on numerous occasions over the years, including following her passing. Marking the tenth anniversary of her death, Ryan told People magazine back in 2019: "There was never a day I didn't love her."

Farrah's pal Sylvia Dorsey told the outlet that Ryan was the "love of her life". Sylvia suggested that Farrah wasn't "happy without him," adding: "They fought and loved with passion. It was never boring." She said they were "electric" together.
