Grim moment police forced to shoot pitbulls who left Iowa mom without legs
Police bodycam footage captured the sick moment a mother had her legs mauled off by three large pitbulls.
Law enforcement burst onto the scene, and, realizing what was happening, shot all the dogs. The Iowa mother ended up needing both legs amputated and facial reconstruction surgery. She's also suffering from head trauma.
In the video, the officer can be seen running out of his squad car during the attack on November 24. Brittany Skoland, 37, was visiting a friend in the area when she was attacked. Her friend was not there, but neighbours who heard screaming called the police.
As the officer ran towards the scene, dogs can be heard barking as the officer yelled at the dogs to back off. When they didn't, he fired several shots, killing all three pitbulls.

"Brittany has lost a lot more than we originally thought, she's had many surgeries and procedures in the last few days," wrote her aunt Teresa Hanus on a GoFundMe page.
"She did not need surgery on her hands as we had originally thought, however she is going to need facial reconstruction surgery, she has had both legs amputated to her knees, she also has serious head trauma and much more," Hanus continued.
Neighbor Kerri Johnson said in an interview: "I had heard the gunshots. I came outside originally and I saw police with his gun drawn. He had said for me to go inside and I did, I did go inside, but after a couple of moments, my curiosity is piqued."
Another neighbour, Rosemary Possehn, said the dogs were not an issue before the attack. "He [the owner] would take care of them, and they did pretty much what he said,' she told KCCI.
"I was sitting in my living room, and I was just sitting there and all of a sudden I heard bang bang bang, and I come to the door and I seen all the cops," she added. "I seen the lady laying on the ground and the dogs going at her and the cops shot them. And it was quite a few rounds of ammunition to get them down."
Kerri Johnson, was near the scene at the intersection of South 16th Street and 8th Avenue South: "I had heard the gunshots, and I came outside originally and I saw police with his gun drawn."
