Zara McDermott explained how Fred Sirieix and the I'm A Celebrity camp-mates should have helped ADHD sufferer Sam Thompson after slamming him for 'not concentrating'

Fred repeatedly told him to 'calm down' when cooking - before accusing him of lacking focus. He had earlier interrupted Sam when he went to speak, saying: "You go play with your toys and we will go and do the men stuff," before later repeating that the Made in Chelsea star, who has been tipped to win the show.

This Morning viewers heard Fred say: "You are not concentrating Sam" as the reality favourite struggled handling the camp's food. Rylan and Emma Willis seemed annoyed at the reaction and asked his girlfriend Zara for her take after re-watching the scene.

Emma said: "I just felt so sorry for him." Rylan added: "I don't want to speak for Sam but I watched that and thought 'you know he has ADHD. Is saying 'calm down' like asking a coiled spring not to pop? Telling him to 'concentrate, concentrate' - just let him get on with it."

Zara didn't hit out at his treatment but did say: "I think the lovely thing about Sam is that he is able to not take things too personally. He was able to not be offended by that. I do think in that situation it is important to bring him back down to earth but in the right way.

"All those voices would have over-whelmed him quite a lot." Emma said: "I wanted to say to the others 'just let him do his thing'. She told her that her husband Matt also has ADHD, and added: "That's what drew me to him. He's so charismatic. Sam is just the same way."

Zara earlier told viewers: "We've seen him come a long way in his personal growth. Seeing him open up about his ADHD, it's just made me and his family so proud. It's such a difficult thing to talk openly about. It's self confusion too. But we've seen in the jungle that some beautiful things come attached to ADHD too."

Speaking in camp last week, he said he had been diagnosed last year. Sam, 31, told Josie and Marvin “There’s loads of people who are actually of a certain age who get diagnosed way later. When the low bits happen it goes low. But then the highs are really high. My girlfriend Zara is so steady and it’s so good for me. When she’s going steady I’m going like that [mimes wavy line].

“My timekeeping is terrible. I get quite selfish, not just with her [my girlfriend], with everyone, my mates or whatever. My listening to Zara… I’m just finding myself staring off at something completely different. You sort of feel like you’re a bit of a k*** sometimes.” Josie said: “But you would not be Sam without it.”
