Sam Thompson's mum admits reason she's 'not enjoying' I'm A Celebrity

Sam Thompson's mum revealed the reason why she hates tuning into ITV to watch her son in this year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

The Made in Chelsea star's mum Karen broke down in tears while appearing on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show with host Fleur East on Wednesday as they discussed Sam's jungle antics. She was played a pre-recorded message made before he left for Australia.

In it, Sam said: "Hello mum, you can't reply because I'm not actually here I'm in the jungle but I just wanted to say that I miss you and I hope you're proud of me. As you know very well I've wanted to do this show for a very long time and I'm in there, we're living the dream, or I've been booted out but I still managed to do it for a little bit of time."

Breaking into floods of tears, Karen told Fleur: "Oh my God. I'm going to cry. You shouldn't have shown me that, it's really horrible being a parent. I hope people do like him. Not everyone likes everyone, but we are all so unbelievably proud.

"From my father, who I don't think has ever watched the show before, and my mother says 'Oh my goodness your father goes round everywhere telling everybody'." It was earlier on in the radio show that Karen said she wasn't enjoying I'm A Celebrity.

"It's nerve-wracking as it's my little boy, my child! I dread it every evening, but he is just being himself and he seems to be happy, and he looks well and that’s the main thing," she explained. "He's managed to pick up loads of sticks and branches to wander around with, and I don't know whether he does it at work, but he's never been without something sword or lightsabre-like in his hand to wander around with. So, the jungle is a great place for him because they’re everywhere - he can literally go around picking up swords and lightsabres."

Detailing her favourite moment of the series so far, Karen added: "His discussion with Marvin and Josie when they were just having a quiet conversation about each other, and about ADHD, was really, really sweet and nice because they were just lovely and kind." She admitted fearing for Sam when he slapped boxer, Tony Bellew, in the face.

"Time froze for that split second, waiting to see what the reaction was going to be, and I have to say Tony was just brilliant. Sam did have the dead mozzy in his hand to show him it was genuine," she explained, laughing off the near-miss.

Sam remains in the jungle alongside his star-studded co-stars This Morning's Josie Gibson, former politician Nigel Farage, JLS star Marvin Humes, EastEnders legend Danielle Harold, Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard and boxer Tony Bellew.
