Liverpool are firmly in the Premier League title race this season.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds sit second in the table following the dramatic 4-3 comeback victory against Fulham last time out. They will be aiming to continue their good form in midweek as they travel to St James’ Park to take on Sheffield United.

The Blades made a bold decision ahead of Wednesday's game after sacking Paul Heckingbottom in favour of Chris Wilder. Ahead of the clash, take a look at all of the stand-out Liverpool-related headlines coming out of Anfield over the past 24 hours:

Klopp shares worrying update

Liverpool boss Klopp has suggested that Joel Matip could be out for an extended period after picking up a knee injury. The defender sustained the problem in the weekend success against Fulham.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the German said: “No, I don’t know exactly [how long] but it doesn’t look good, that’s something we can say. The scan is not done yet so we don’t know exactly, but it’s not great. From the first second it was clear, we spoke to him and said, ‘No, that’s not good.’ But how long, I don’t know.” The Reds already have a number of stars restricted to the sidelines including Andrew Robertson, Thiago, Alisson and more.

Wright blasts Alexander-Arnold

Ian Wright has torn into the “ridiculous” decision to put down Trent Alexander-Arnold's freekick as a Bernd Leno own goal. The Liverpool right-back scored a stunning effort in the win against Fulham.

Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show, the former Arsenal striker said: "How can they not give that first one to Trent, they're saying that this is an own goal? Look at that. It's ridiculous not giving him that goal. I don't know if that's coming out if it doesn't hit his head."

Klopp opens up on Wilder return

Jurgen Klopp has revealed Sheffield United’s decision to reappoint Chris Wilder has caused him to “bin” his pre-match preparations. The latter returned to Bramall Lane on Tuesday, just a day before the clash with the Reds.

"He has a press conference now, training after that, maybe another session tomorrow and analysis,” Klopp said. “We have to focus on ourselves, I don't think he will change too much in such a short period.

"I remember how they played under Chris before. We can bin our analysis! I was sitting in the office yesterday when someone said it could happen. Our late winner was very important. If you do that every week you'll likely win the league.”
