Leandro Trossard has made a decent impact since joining Arsenal and his goal celebration has caught the eye at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal paid Brighton £27million to sign Trossard in January after failing to land first-choice target Mykhaylo Mudryk, who joined Chelsea instead in a deal which could reach £88.5m. Trossard hit the ground running in north London, chipping in with some vital assists in the second half of the 2022/23 season.

He has now turned into a very useful squad player for Mikel Arteta, who can field him anywhere across the front line due to his versatility. The Belgium international has seven goals and 12 assists in 38 games altogether for Arsenal and has therefore had plenty of opportunity to celebrate.

Arsenal supporters have noticed his unique way of marking a goal, which sees Trossard put his hands up to his eyes to form goggles. Speaking during his time at his previous club Brighton, Trossard has explained the genesis for the move.

"It all started a bit more than a year ago when I asked my son what celebration I would do,” he previously explained. “He told me to do that celebration, I think he [has] seen it on YouTube with a superhero. At that moment, I said, 'Okay, I will do it'.

"Now it’s a little thing between us. If I score, I do the celebration. I come home, he sees me and runs up to me and does the same thing. It’s a nice little thing between us and I’m enjoying it." Trossard married his partner Laura Hilven in 2019 and the couple have two sons, Thiago and Amadeo, born in 2017 and 2023 respectively.

Having scored just once for Arsenal last season, Trossard has been able to wheel out his celebration on six occasions this campaign. He has taken on a varied role in Arteta’s side, appearing on both flanks and as a false No9 when Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are not playing.

Speaking ahead of the 6-0 win over Lens in the Champions League, Arteta hailed his adaptability. “I think he’s a tremendous player, that has great talent and especially great intelligence to play the way we want to play, so he’s a really good fit for us,” he said.

“That (versatility) was one of the main reasons why we signed him; he’s got experience in the league, he’s done what he’s done in the league already. We had a lot of issues in January in our frontline, and he could cover those necessities in a really efficient way, and he’s proven that he can do all that.”
