World Book Day is right around the corner and it can be tricky to know what exactly is the right gift to get the special someone in your life. It's particularly tricky to know where to start with readers as they have a habit of going to have a browse in a bookshop and coming out with four new books, it's hard to say if you'll accidentally double up on something.

There are many different types of readers but when it comes down to it they're best established by their favourite way to read - although it's quite common for them to read across a number of mediums. If they're Team Kindle then PopSockets, cases and stickers are most likely on their list, but that's not the case for everyone.

Booktok and Bookstagram have made certain accessories massively popular when it comes to reading - a lot of readers don't actually use bookmarks these days, instead throwing in their phone, a highlighter or whatever's to hand to hold their page or just logging it on Goodreads. Here at the Mirror we've rounded up some of the best gifts this World Book Day for the reader in your life.

Sticky tabs

If you're not part of the book community this might sound strange, but sticky tabbing a book has become all the rage. Typically a selection of different coloured sticky tabs come into play that match the front cover of the book - as a result ideally you want a range of different coloured tabs.

Then they're used to signify different things in the book such as swoony moments, spicy moments and points that made readers cry. It makes it easy to see at a glance what the reading experience was like and to come back to favourite extracts.

Pastel Highlighters

Similarly to the sticky tabs highlighters are used to highlight popular passages in books, sometimes with notes and doodles surrounding them on the page. This makes the reading experience much more personal and each book in a private library can then easily show what was thought of throughout the time spent immersed in the story.

While highlighters come in many different shades, neon doesn't seem to be popular for this purpose with pastels being the go to option. This is likely because it has a more subtle finish and often matches the covers without being too jarring.

One shopper said: "I wish it came with more colours but I love the uniqueness of the pen exterior & pen colours. Very retro & vintage. Makes tackling to-do lists, taking notes, and highlighting in books so aesthetic."

People who have collections of their own books are typically incredibly proud of their personal library, there's a way to make it even more official. With a personalised book embosser you can imprint the pages of your books so that they can always make their way home.

For book lovers this is such a lovely gift as the extra effort it takes to customise makes any reader feel special. Our very own Jada Jones received one of these as a gift and proudly shows it off to guests when they're browsing her personal library.
