Lego Fortnite is set to bring the beloved minifigs to the game this week, and here's everything we know about the upcoming collab.

Fortnite is entering a brand new era; both literally, with the release of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1, and metaphorically with three brand new game modes coming this week. Lego Fortnite will sit alongside the Rock Band-inspired Fortnite Festival, while Rocket Racing will draw from Psyonix's Rocket League. Epic Games owns both Harmonix and Psyonix, developers of Rock Band and Rocket League, and the devs are lending a hand in crafting these experiences.

Lego Fortnite has been rumoured since June and it was finally revealed during The Big Bang event, with a launch date of Thursday, December 7. Although despite the mode being mere days away, there isn't a whole lot known about it right now, except for the fact there's going to be over 1,000 Fortnite Lego skins available in-game. You can also pick up the free Lego Insiders Fortnite skin by linking your Lego and Epic Games accounts.

We've scraped together everything we know so far about Lego Fortnite to give you the rundown on this upcoming Minecraft-inspired mode.

Lego Fortnite: release date

The Lego Fortnite release date is set for Thursday, November 7. You'll be able to find the new mode in the game browser (where you would find the normal game modes like Battle Royale and Zero Build as well as the user created games) once it launches. The Lego Fortnite release time is set for 12pm GMT / 7am EST / 4am PST on Thursday, December 7 according to Fortnite Leaker @ShiinaBR.

From the sounds of things, Lego Fortnite is set to be a permanent mode in the game going forward, so you don't need to worry about rushing through it in a matter of days to see everything, it'll be around for a while.

Lego Fortnite: open-world and gameplay

The Lego Fortnite trailer does give us a bit of a look at what the gameplay will be despite being pre-rendered. Watching the trailer you'll notice house building, evil mobs coming out at night, and mining, y'know stuff you'd see in Minecraft – which backs up the theories that this mode will be a Fortnite take on Minecraft. The tags for this game mode in Fortnite also list it as 'survival' 'co-op' 'sandbox' and 'open-world' confirming that Lego Fortnite will be an open-world mode This leaked world creation screen from @HYPEX on Twitter seems to back up the Minecraft comparison, with the enemies and hunger being selectable settings for the 'survival mode'.

Plus, it seems like there may be some interesting now POI's for the Lego Fortnite mode, as @HYPEX also found files relating to the iconic Lego Ninjago sets within the files for the new mode. Thankfully we won't have to wait long to find out exactly what's included in Lego Fortnite, with the mode launching in a matter of days.

Lego Fortnite: multiplayer and crossplay

Lego Fortnite multiplayer is going to allow up to eight players in a game – meaning you and seven pals can head into this open-world game mode at a time, which is more than enough if you ask us.

The game mode will also be crossplay between platforms, so you can play together with friends whether you're on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch, or even Android. While this isn't explicitly stated anywhere by Lego or Epic, considering literally everything else in Fortnite is crossplay enabled, we'd be shocked if it somehow changed now.
