This terrifying footage shows the moment a couple were hurled to the ground by thugs so they could steal a £28,000 Rolex watch.

The husband and wife had been on a night out in north London when they were suddenly ambushed from behind by two men. Both were then pulled to the floor in a struggle before the suspects ripped the man's watch -a black and gold Rolex Yacht-Master with a black rubber strap - from his wrist, and ran off.

Footage released by police shows the attackers bundling the couple on the floor and pinning them down as they carry out the shocking attack.

One of them is wearing a black coat, while the other is in what appears to be a blue gillet. A member of the public tried to help the couple, and then called police. The area around Frognall Road was searched, but the men were not found. Police said the victims were "shaken", but thankfully did not suffer any serious physical injuries. Officers are now asking anyone who can identify the two men in the video or who may have been offered the watch for sale to come forward.

Sergeant Max Pennington from Metropolitan Police said: "The man and his wife were on their way home after enjoying a night out when this horrible incident happened. I'm keen to hear from anyone who can identify the two men. I also want to hear from any jewellers or pawnbrokers who might have been offered the watch for sale. "

An estimated £30 million worth of luxury watches are stolen in London every year, recent research showed, amid a spate of robberies and targeted thefts in the capital. Data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) by Watchfinder & Co found that more than 100,000 watches have been stolen across the UK since 2015, with 6,000 cases alone reported in the 12 months to April. Famous recent victims of watch robberies in the city include former boxer Amir Khan and Welsh singer Aled Jones.
