Charlotte Crosby shares emotional reason for not celebrating Christmas this year
Charlotte Crosby has revealed the reason why she won't be decorating her house or buying presents this Christmas.
As many celebrities spend a fortune turning their homes into lavish grottos and go all out this festive season, former Geordie Shore star Charlotte, 33, has explained why she and her loved ones won't be celebrating the holiday in a traditional British manner this year.
In fact, the mum-of-one won't even be in the U.K when Santa and his reindeer come to visit later this month, with the Celebrity Big Brother planning to whisk her family away abroad following the heartbreak they all suffered in the run-up to last year's Christmas period.
Charlotte sadly lost her beloved grandmother Jean last November, just months on from the reality TV star becoming a mother for the first time after giving birth to daughter Alba Jean with boyfriend Jake Ankers. A grieving Charlotte said her "world will never be the same" as she announced her nan's to her fans at the time.
One year on from her loss, Charlotte is adapting to Christmas being very different without her beloved nan around. "This year we're really not preparing for Christmas, it's such a random one," the star explained to the Mirror earlier this week. "We're not even going to decorate the house."
Geordie Shore's Holly Hagan shows off ripped abs despite being 5 months pregnant"We're gonna do a small little tree just for Alba's sake, like a little one that you put at the table. We're actually flying away on Christmas Day to the Maldives so we're doing Christmas completely different this year, and I have never been so excited.
Charlotte, who last week was revealed as the incredible voice behind Paramount+ UK's 2023 festive jingle, went on to explain the reason behind her decision to leave England over the holidays. "This is a first time abroad I've never done a Christmas away and we're not doing any presents. It's just about making some memories, like amazing memories, on a big family holiday. We're going with my mum, my dad - just basically everyone who we would gather with on Christmas Day.
"I really don't enjoy Christmas. I don't really know why or where that stems from but I don't enjoy it as much as everyone else does. I think it can go one or two ways - you can either love Christmas or actually feel quite down over Christmas, and that's always how I've felt."
Reflecting on the loss of her nan last year, just a few weeks before the festive season got in its full swing, Charlotte continued: "Last Christmas, we obviously lost my Nana. So the thing that makes Christmas 'Christmas', when you have your grandparents round, was gone.
"Obviously I've never liked Christmas but last Christmas was the worst. It was the first Christmas without my Nana - she had died a month beforehand - and just nothing felt the same. It was It was a really, really sad day. And we actually sat there and wondered how was Christmas ever going to be the same now she's not here.
"We've only got a small family so sitting in in my mum's house on Christmas day just feels like every other Sunday when we'll go round for a Sunday dinner. So [I thought it was time] to do something completely different and turn it around and switch it on it's head because honestly, I was so upset and sad last Christmas without my nan there. We didn't want to just be in that situation again, where it's just doesn't feel the same, because my nan is not there. So we're doing something completely different."
Charlotte was speaking with the Mirror last week as Paramount+ UK revealed the Geordie star as the incredible voice behind its 2023 Festive jingle. The advert, which saw Charlotte record a song in a studio for the first time, is available to view now on the Paramount+ Youtube channel as well as TV, Radio and Cinemas alike.
Commenting on the advert, Charlotte said: "I can’t believe I’ve been asked to sing for a FESTIVE ADVERT! What an opportunity. It’s been soooo fun showing off a little side to me nobody knows exists. Thanks to Paramount+ for the immense fun we had doing this. And for making the catchiest ever festive jingle."
