A refugee who eloped with her married UK lover who eventually dumped her in a whirlwind affair has appeared in court.

Sofiia Karkadym when she began a romance with Tony Garnett, 30, who left his partner of 10 years and two children to be with her after the family took her in as a refugee. She fled the Russian invasion and travelled from Lviv to West Yorkshire, where she stayed with them for less than two weeks before her relationship with Tony. Their relationship eventually fizzled out after a number of arguments. Karkadym was charged with assaulting an emergency worker after an incident at her ex's flat last year in which she bit a police officer.

Proceedings today at Bradford Magistrates’ Court heard the incident happened after she learned a friend of hers was killed in the war with Russia, reports MailOnline. Prosecutor Shabina Taj told the court two police officers attended the flat on Grape Street, Bradford, when a neighbour reported a commotion from inside. A man demanded she be removed from the premises but she refused, despite a number of requests by the officers. She was said to be 'visibly upset' because her friend had been killed in the war in the Ukraine.

Mrs Taj said a male attended the flat demanding all his belongings and wanting the defendant to be removed from the flat. They eventually decided to physically remove her , but PC Andrew Jordinson said : “The defendant looked down and then bit my hand between the thumb and finger in my right hand. 'I cried out and pushed her to the floor to prevent her biting again.”

Mitigating Lisa Julian said Karkadymhad travelled back for the hearing from Ukraine, where she had moved back to. Chairman Brian Outlaw ordered her to pay £150 compensation.

Last year it was reported she had moved back to Ukraine where she was staying in Kolomyia, near Lviv, with her grandmother. At the time she said: “ was scared when I arrived in Lviv because an alarm went off at the train station. And people thought there may be some sort of attack by the Russians. When I was on the bus I saw the funeral of a soldier. I began to cry again when I saw that.

"It really brought it back to me of what is going on here. Ukrainians are being murdered and our soldiers are being as brave as any. She added she “needs peace.”
