Sky News presenter Sally Lockwood has announced that she is pregnant after successfully 'hiding' her growing bump from viewers.

The former ITN host took to social media on Sunday afternoon to make the exciting update, and to thank her co-workers for their support over the past few months. Sally, who joined Sky in 2017, revealed that her "family" at the media organisation have "looked after" her as she "attempted to hide a large belly, leggings and nausea on air." The broadcaster then hailed her fellow employees as the "kindest people in the biz as well as the best." She also said she'd be looking forward to "cheering" the Sky News team "from the sidelines" for a few months as she focuses on giving birth and raising a newborn with her husband.

In another post, she was photographed wearing a pink jumper with a visible baby bump and joked that she was taking time off to "focus on personal admin." Fans were quick to react to her maternity leave announcement, with many flocking to the comment section below to send kind messages.

"Best wishes, Sally. You'll be missed." Another added: "All the very best @sallylockwood. Enjoy your time away and I hope the birth goes well." A third chimed in with: "Wonderful news, @sallylockwood. All the very best with it all!"

Sally, who hails from England but is also fluent in French and Spanish, was previously a US correspondent for Sky News and has covered everything from the murder of George Floyd to the storming of Congress. She was also one of the first international journalists to travel to Italy as it became the first country in Europe to go into lockdown following the outbreak of COVID-19. Prior to working at Sky, Sally was based at ITN and had also spent six months working for Forces News in Afghanistan.

Last month, Sally took to Instagram to reveal she'd had a narrow escape after a crash with a lorry. The reporter was forced to miss her Friday Newshour show due to the accident, which admits left her feeling "very lucky." A friend who already knew about her pregnancy asked if her unborn baby was also safe in the comment section below the post, to which Sally said: "Yes thank you and thankfully no early labour."

"Oh crumbs! Hope you are okay and even more worrying being pregnant," another concerned follower wrote, while a third said, "Omg! Sally I do hope you and bump are ok."

In May 2021, Sally made a rare tribute to her now husband Ronan after he'd proposed six months prior. "We’ve been separated by travel restrictions for most of the last year yet Ro’s support has been immense," she wrote. "No matter what time zones we were on I always woke to a text, after one pretty tough day he kept the phone line open through the night and he was even mad enough to propose in November. Big shout out to loved ones behind the scenes who support us doing our crazy jobs."
