Ellie Taylor forced to miss Royal Variety Performace as comedian gives birth

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Ellie Taylor has announced the birth of her second child with CNN reporter husband Phil Black.

The 40-year-old star who is also known for her sharp wit on shows including 8 Out of 10 Cats and Mock the Week, took to Instagram to share with fans her news. She told fans that the birth of her baby had been a surprise. The couple already share a five-year-old daughter, Valentina. Ellie posted a picture of herself pregnant and dressed up for the Royal Variety performance before informing fans that she had to change her outfit due to her child's birth - to a hospital gown.

Ellie was due to perform in front of Prince William and Princess Catherine, as well as Swedens Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel.

She captioned the snap saying: "This is the fabulous outfit I was meant to be wearing tonight while doing stand-up at the @royalvarietyperformance in front of 4,000 people, including @princeandprincessofwales. Swipe to see the actual outfit I'll be wearing tonight due to the surprise early arrival of my own little HRH. "

She added: "Gutted to miss out but also very very happy to be wearing giant mesh knickers and saying 'But his skin is just so SOFT!' ten times an hour. Mother and baby doing well because mummy has access to morphine and baby has access to boobies. Wishing the rest of the performers the best night for a fantastic cause! Wishing me 12 hours sleep and a massive Pina Colada (not with the morphine, don't worry…)."

The star first announced her second pregnancy in September after sharing a snap of her baby bump while looking down at her daughter. She also posted a message saying: "Ratbag No.2 - inbound. Pregnancy has been a funny old topic for me over the last few years and I've sometimes found it tricky following prego people online. For anyone in a similar headspace, if the idea of the inevitable baby spam that will follow makes you feel a bit weird, then I lovingly encourage you to be kind to your brainbox and mute or unfollow me."

She added: "I hope you'll be back but whatever your situation, I wish you love and clarity as you continue to navigate your own journey." In the picture Ellie sported a pink crop top and black underwear and teamed her look with a pair of matching sunglasses. And her post was met with a string of congratulatory comments. Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez commented: "Congrats."

Other fans wrote: "Congratulations!" Another said: "Oh wow amazing news congratulations xxxx." And a third penned: "The best words ever on the 2nd slide congratulations Ellie xx." Ellie's husband Phil is a well known news reporter and has covered some of the world's biggest stories including the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004, the Madeline McCann search and the Princess Diana inquest.
