The MW3 Warzone release date has finally been confirmed, and you won't have long to wait before jumping into the new Urzikstan map.

We've known ever since the release of the latest Call of Duty title, MW3, that the new Warzone would be launching alongside the game's big MW3 Season 1 update in early December. The battle royale title is set to receive a huge – and much-needed – overhaul. Due to its close integration with MW3, the new Warzone will be getting all of the game's new movement changes, perk redesigns, reintroduction of slide cancelling and of course, the big new Warzone Urzikstan map, which has definite Verdansk vibes.

Here's when MW3 Warzone officially launches, and when you can drop into the new Urzikstan map, as well as the popular resurgence mode.

MW3 Warzone: release date

Activision has confirmed via a post on Twitter that the MW3 Warzone release date is Wednesday, December 6, with the new Warzone set to be launched alongside the Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 update. Call of Duty developers, Sledgehammer Games, tells players to "circle your calendar for Season 1 launch on December 6 with new maps, a ton of new content and more."

This is exactly the date we thought the new MW3 Warzone would come out, as December 6 is around four weeks after the launch of MW3, and this is similar to the gap we saw between the Modern Warfare 2 release date and Warzone 2 release date last year. The MW3 Warzone release time has yet to be confirmed, but judging by previous major Warzone updates, we'd expect the new Warzone to go live at around 6pm GMT / 1pm EST / 10am PST.

MW3 Warzone: new map

The rollout of the new Warzone will also see the launch of a new battle royale map, with Al Mazrah set to be immediately replaced by the brand-new Urzikstan map which – on the face of it – has a lot of similarities with the legendary Verdansk map from Warzone's golden era. Al Mazrah was based in the Middle East, but with Urzikstan based in Western Asia, the new Warzone map is set to have a brand-new colour palette and offers a much more urban experience, moving it closer to the dense Verdansk map in terms of design. Here are all the major Urzikstan POIs as well as flythrough from the official Call of Duty YouTube channel:

There are also references to classic Call of Duty maps within Urzikstan too, with areas resembling maps like Overwatch, Favela, Aniyah Palace, Countdown and potentially Station in the official Urzikstan flythrough trailer.

MW3 Warzone: Resurgence

Not only are Warzone players going to be treated to overhauled gameplay mechanics, slide cancelling and a new map, but players will also be able to jump straight into the Resurgence mode this time around; both the Vondel and Ashika Island maps will be available at launch, with Rebirth Island set to be added to the rotation in early 2024.

Last year, players had to wait four months post-Warzone 2.0 launch before Resurgence was added, so MW3 Warzone will offer much more variety at launch this year, and should be a much closer gameplay experience to the original.

MW3 Warzone: Season 1 and what to expect

Activision has confirmed everything new for MW3 Warzone Season 1 via a blog post, with the title set to receive a big gameplay overhaul that will bring it up to date with MW3, and therefore closer to the original Warzone thanks to the faster movement, including the reintroduction of slide cancelling, reload cancelling and a new shooting stance called Tac-Stance.

Warzone will also be getting a few interesting new features, including horizontal ziplines and a driveable train! The publisher has also confirmed that navigating and finding the new Warzone should be easier following the title's launch, so players won't have to exit MW3 completely to access Warzone, which is the process currently.

A special snowy event has also been teased for Season 1 Reloaded, but there's no word if the scary, and frankly annoying, Krampus will be returning to the game this year.
