Chelsea boss Graham Potter has been told be would be "better off without" flop Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid the striker's dreadful performances.

Aubameyag has scored just once in the Premier League since joining the Blues in a £10.3million deal from Barcelona in the summer window. The latest low of his career at Stamford Bridge came in the defeat by Manchester City on Thursday.

The striker was introduced as a substitute for the injured Raheem Sterling five minutes into the clash at Stamford Bridge. But after having just 13 touches and zero shots, Potter hauled him back off 22 minutes before full-time.

The Chelsea boss claimed after the game that fatigue had led to him taking off the substitute. But legendary former manager Neil Warnock has warned him to move Aubameyang out of the club as soon as possible.

“I just think with him sometimes, you get players like that (Aubameyang) and you are better off without them. They're (Chelsea) short of strikers but it's one of those things. Young manager, he's not been in the game all that long, Graham," Warnock said on talkSPORT.

"People like him, I mean they are after themselves really, they look after themselves as players and they’ll throw the manager under the bus rather than take any blame. It's one of them things, he just has to get on with him and deal with it.

“It’s similar to what’s happened with (Cristiano) Ronaldo at Man United. I said in pre-season, 'They should let him go quickly because he's going to upset everything else'. That's no disrespect to how he was as a player, it's just personality-wise.

"I don’t think he’ll (Aubameyang) ever change; you know from Arsenal to Chelsea, now he looks the same type of player. On his day, as good as you’ll see, but his days are few and far between.”

After the defeat by City, Chelsea sit 10th in the Premier League, 10 points adrift of Manchester United in the final Champions League place. But Potter insisted he had no problem with Aubaemyang, despite his early substitution.

"No, I’ve not got time to speak in any depth in that point. You understand that footballers want to play and help the team. It’s a decision we have to make," he said when asked if he had spoken to Aubameyang.

"He hasn’t played for a while and playing against Manchester City as a forward, sometimes you have to do a bit of work off the ball. He gave everything for the team and was fatiguing a little bit. So that was the decision.

"He came on after one minute, hadn’t played for a while, and put in an absolute shift for us given Manchester City make you run a lot. I thought he did everything he could for the team. He was fatiguing a little bit, same as Hakim (Ziyech), so that was the decision.

"We needed a little bit of energy, so I thought we could use Omari (Hutchinson), Conor (Gallagher) and Lewis (Hall). Of course, players want to stay on the pitch and influence the game. It’s a normal reaction."
