Britney Spears has appeared to take a swipe at her sister Jamie Lynn after posting a social media message proclaiming: "Ladies do not start fights - but they can finish them."

The global pop star, 41, used Instagram to post an animation clip of a white cat speaking to a smaller kitten. The cat says: "Ladies do not start fights, but they can finish them." The grey kitten then says in response: "Well, she started it."

The post seems almost certain to be about a conversation Jamie Lynn, 32, had in camp, which would show Britney is tuning in to watch I'm A Celebrity.

In the conversation on ITV over the weekend, Sam Thompson asked if Jamie Lynn's big sister Britney would be concerned about her decision to compete in the jungle. "I can imagine she'd be worried about me out here. I think she’s probably checking in on me heavily," Jamie Lynn said.

"I do think she’s probably like, ‘Why would she do that?’ She asked me that before I came here, she was like, ‘You’re really going to do it?’ I was like, ‘I’m going to go to Australia and check it out.’”

Laughing, she added: "Me crying, she’d probably be like, ‘Ya’ll get her out of there, right now!’” Jamie Lynn went on to call Britney a “good big sister,” and reflected on the complicated nature of their relationship.

"I love her,” she said. “Me and her throw down. The world’s seen that. I’ve learned to stop talking about it publicly, but you know what, families fight. Listen, we just do it better than most.”

It's thought Britney's post is commenting on this latter part of the conversation about fighting, and with the sister's age gap it makes sense for Britney to use a cat and a kitten in her post too.

With the relationship between the sisters thought to be strained, it will come as no surprise that Jamie Lynn is expected to be greeted by her husband Jamie and children, Maddie, 15, and Ivey, 5 when she leaves the show. They will fly into Australia this week.

The sisters are no longer thought to be close and it was noticeable that Jamie Lynn did not mention Britney in any of the promotional interviews for ITV in the lead-up to the series starting.

She has been involved in a public war of words with her superstar sister in recent months after both of them released books and Britney insisted her younger sister should have helped her regain control of her life. Britney also said Jamie Lynn behaved like a "total b*tch" growing up.

Britney broke her silence in June 2021 in regard to her 2008 conservatorship being oppressive. Jamie Lynn wrote in her book 2022: "My sister's diatribe assigns blame outward without any self-reflection. I want to reiterate that my early childhood was good, despite the growing chaos in our home."

For her part Britney feels her sister could have helped her when her father used the conservatorship to lock her up against her will in a rehab facility for months.

In her book Britney wrote: "I also texted my sister when I was in that place and asked her to get me out. 'Stop fighting it,' she texted back. 'There's nothing you can do about it, so stop fighting it'."
