What is Travel Tuesday?

While Thanksgiving is an American holiday, shoppers in the UK have eagerly embraced the frenzied shopping event that follows the day after. Black Friday migrated across the Atlantic a fair few years ago and it has gone from strength to strength, offering consumers thousands of brilliant bargains during a four-day mega sale that traditionally ends on Cyber Monday.

How to find the best deals on Travel Tuesday

While Travel Tuesday is a fairly recent addition to our favourite seasonal sales event, the shopping day is growing in popularity with more and more retailers getting involved.

To ensure that you don't fall prey to deals that are anything less than brilliant, follow our top tips to win big on Travel Tuesday.

Research prices in advance.

Whether you’re looking to book a hotel room, flight, or tour, make sure you do research in advance to find out what the original advertised price is. Then, when you spot a deal, you’ll know how much of a deal it really is.

Pay close attention to the deals that drop today (Cyber Monday) as they could give you an indication of how far, if at all, prices from your favourite provider are likely to fall tomorrow.

Have a budget in mind

It can be so easy to overspend when you see an amazing deal. Start with a budget you’re happy to stick to and make sure you don’t go over it. While the flight might seem cheap, if it's over your budget then it's not a deal.

Be flexible with your dates and destinations.

If you’re able to be flexible with the dates that you travel or the places you want to go, it’ll be much easier for you to find the best deals. Look at flights within a few days of your chosen date to find the cheapest seats and if you're open to alternative destinations, you could save even more.

Sign up for deals

If you know you have certain airlines or hotels you prefer, sign up for their newsletters in advance to make sure you receive their deals as soon as they drop. This means you’ll be able to make a quick decision about if the options are right for you, or if you need to shop around other companies

Read the T&Cs

While you need to move fast to secure the best deal, make sure you’re not just blinded by the number on the website. Sometimes travel providers will impose specific rules onto heavily discounted products, so make sure you read the contract to understand their cancellation policy, what’s included in the fare and if any form of insurance is included or required.
