Detectives are hunting a wanted goatee-bearded criminal, as they warn the public not to approach him.

Reece Navarro is wanted on recall to prison. Police suspect he is currently in the Plymouth area and are appealing to trace him.

The 24-year-old is from Liverpool and has been described as speaking with a Liverpudlian accent. A police spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police told Plymouth Live: "Enquiries have been made by police to locate him and officers are now appealing to the public for information on his whereabouts and to report any sightings."

"Navarro is described as being a white male, of medium build, with short light brown/gingery coloured hair with a goatee. He is believed to currently be in the Plymouth area." Anyone who sees Navarro is asked to not approach him and to call police immediately on 999 immediately quoting reference 50230299497.

Open prisons are lower security jails where criminals are not confined to cells and are even granted leave into the community with specific conditions they return. Many lower-level offenders are sent to open prisons to free up space in higher category institutions for more serious offenders.

Last month, police in Suffolk issued an appeal for three men wanted on recall to HMP Hollesley Bay, a Category D prison in Norfolk. Joshua Lewis Terry, 29, and Levi Mitchell, 39, both went on the run from sentences they were serving at the jail with members of the public again warned not to approach the men.

A third man, Aidan McGuinness also went on the run separately from the same prison on the same weekend. Both McGuinness and Terry were subsequently arrested in different parts of the country. Mitchell, who was serving a sentence for multiple burglary offences, stayed at large for three weeks before he was arrested in Harlow, Essex, earlier this month.
