Krishnan Guru-Murthy has announced a huge career change just weeks after his Strictly Come Dancing exit.

The 53-year-old Channel 4 News journalist was partnered with pro dancer Lauren Oakley on the hit BBC show, but the couple departed the dancefloor earlier this month after the judges chose to save Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington in the dance-off. However, Krishnan has revealed his time on the show has motivated him to launch a career in music.

The presenter said after his son Jay, 16, played at Glastonbury Festival with his band Askew, he was inspired to get his own rock band back together after decades apart. “I got him into guitars and now I’m thinking of getting a band back together,” he told The Times.

He has previously spoken about his short-lived music career, as he revealed his old bandmate Tim Hincks was the reason he met - and married - his wife. “Tim worked with me on a show and introduced me to Lisa, who worked with his wife, Pippa. Now, much more importantly, we play in a band together. But we don't talk rock'n'roll in front of wives - they don't take us seriously,” he joked.

The journalist admitted his life has been transformed after taking part in Strictly Come Dancing, and after being voted off the show, he paid a sweet tribute to the team behind the scenes. “Look, this has been the most incredible experience. I said it has been life-changing and it genuinely has. I am incredibly grateful to the entire production team, judges, my incredible Strictly family up there. It's right I am going out this week and I have got to get back to life,” Krishnan shared.

During an interview on spin-off show It Takes Two, he even broke down in tears after reminiscing about his Strictly journey. “No one will miss this show as much as I will. I went into it with a different mindset because I was aware that it might be my last dance so I really wanted to enjoy it,” he explained. “I wasn't just about the performance I was in a slightly different headspace than normal. I wanted to remember it as our last dance, if it was to be our last dance.”

He also revealed he had a specific request for the Strictly costume department ahead of what would be his last time on the Strictly dancefloor. “I actually requested sequins. I realised I hadn't had any so far and I was feeling a bit left out. Thank goodness I did.”
