Doctor Who fans 'in tears' over David Tennant's reaction to new TARDIS
David Tennant is back as the beloved Doctor, people! The 52-year-old has returned to his iconic role in Doctor Who for a three-part special in celebration of the show’s 60th anniversary.
The first episode debuted on Saturday on BBC One in the UK, and on Disney+ in the US, and the Scottish star did not disappoint. Tennant returned to his beloved TARDIS, which has had quite the makeover since his regeneration when he left the show in 2009.
Upon entering the brand new, sparkling white time-travel machine, Tennant’s Doctor had quite the tear-jerking reaction. With his eyes full of wonder, he started to run laps around the machine - prompting fans to flock to social media to pen their thoughts on the sweet moment.
“I genuinely think this is the best TARDIS reaction in the show by far,” wrote the fan account @SafeSpaceDrWho on X, formerly Twitter. “To me it just feels like David Tennant fanboying over a new TARDIS set”.
Meanwhile, others shared the same sentiment that David wasn’t acting at all during the scene, and was just embracing the beauty of the new set. “I’m so certain David Tennant wasn’t doing an ounce of acting in this scene this is just a 52 year old man that’s become a 9 year old kid again,” said a different fan.
Happy Valley's Clare's death 'confirmed' after tragic final exchange with sisterElsewhere, other viewers were thrilled that David and Catherine Tate, who plays the iconic sidekick Donna Noble, both returned to the show. “So...I finally watched . And I may have cried. I don't think it's fully hit home yet that David Tennant and Catherine Tate really are back. I'm not sure what to say except that it was glorious and thrilling and different, yet still the same. My Doctor. He's back,” said another fan.
Also returning to the show is writer-producer Russell T Davies - also known for It’s A Sin and Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood. Russell re-launched the series back in 2005 following a 16-year hiatus, and implemented note-worthy features of the series like casting David and Catherine in their roles.
