Earlier this year, former Coronation Street star Millie Gibson was announced as the new companion to the fifteenth doctor played by Sex Education star, Ncuti Gatwa.

Millie, 19, who is set to play a character called Ruby Sunday left Coronation Street last year to pursue other projects, and shortly after leaving the cobbles, she landed the highly sought after Doctor Who role. The talented actress played Kelly Neelan on the cobbles from 2019 to 2022 and immediately became a fan favourite.

At the start of 2023 the actress was announced as the latest Doctor Who companion when she stepped out of the Tardis live on Children In Need. The former Corrie favourite will star opposite Sex Education star Ncuti, who takes over as the Doctor in 2023. The iconic series makes a comeback with three special episodes to coincide with the 60th anniversary – with David Tennant returning as the 14th Doctor.

Millie spoke of the excitement she felt when she was announced as the Doctor's companion last November. At the time, she said: "It's insane. I was so honoured to even be considered for an audition. I just hope I can make you all happy and fill the boots of the other companions."

"Whilst still being in total disbelief, I am beyond honoured to be cast as the Doctor’s companion. It is a gift of a role, and a dream come true, and I will do everything to try and fill the boots the fellow companions have travelled in before me."

Meanwhile, Sex Education star Ncuti said of his co-star: "She is full of talent, strength, she has a cheeky sparkle in her eye and is sharp as a razor. From the moment she walked into the room she captured all of our attention with her effervescence and then solidified that attention with the sheer torque of her talent. This adventure is going to be so wild and so fun, I cannot wait to sail the universe with Millie."

The 15th Doctor’s companion will travel alongside him as they embark on a new set of adventures but Millie has been busy living her life off-screen ahead of the launch of the new series this month.

Prior to joining the cast of Coronation Street in 2019, MIllie made her TV debut on the CBBC series Jamie Johnson in 2017. During that same time, the TV star briefly appeared on the BBC One drama Love, Lies and Records.

Following her stint on the BBC shows, Millie subsequently joined the ITV series Butterfly, where she played the character of Lily Duffy. During her time on Coronation Street, Millie was part of some incredibly poignant storylines, including one that saw her character lose her mum to cancer and another which saw her battle homelessness.

After her incredible on-screen performance on the cobbles, MIllie was awarded the Best Young Actor accolade at the British Soap Awards in 2022. Millie, who boasts an impressive 200,000 followers on Instagram regularly shares snippets into her personal life with fans regularly gushing over her enviable fashion sense, makeup skills, and seemingly endless trips. Away from her life as an on-screen star, it seems as though Millie lives just as an exciting life.

Last month, the 19-year-old star oozed glamour as she attended the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Millie stunned in a metallic cream gown with a fishtail hem. The blonde beauty stole the show on the night as she told her Instagram followers that she had one of the best nights of her life at the annual empowering event which celebrates women.

Millie also shared a gorgeous snap of herself from her September getaway in Greece as she rocked a gorgeous tan after soaking up the summer sunshine. Millie often also shares snaps of her close friendships on her Instagram account and it appears as though the actress has struck up a close friendship with Tanisha Gorey, who plays Asha Alahan on Coronation Street, with the pair regularly the taking time to gush over one another on Instagram.

When she's not spending time with her celebrity friends, the former Keely Neelan actress can be found at home in Manchester where she lives with her family. Her family home regularly features as a stunning backdrop to Millie’s Instagram photos, giving her followers a sneak peek inside the property.

Ahead of her Doctor Who debut, at just 19, Millie is the youngest actor to be cast in the role, surpassing a record set by Matthew Waterhouse, who was 20 when he was cast in Doctor Who in the 1980s.

Many Doctor Who fans consider the casting of Millie and Ncuti to be welcoming a new, younger era of the beloved BBC series as avid fans of the franchise gear up to celebrate 60 years of Doctor Who.
