Man City missed trick not inserting 'Jadon Sancho clause' in Cole Palmer deal
Manchester City didn't insert a sell-on clause in Cole Palmer's move to Chelsea - potentially costing the European champions millions.
Palmer, 21, joined the Blues in £42.5million transfer on deadline day after struggling to nail down a spot in Pep Guardiola's starting XI. He's now flourishing at Stamford Bridge, scoring four goals and providing two assists in nine Premier League games for Chelsea.
Palmer has also become a full England international during the past three months, winning his first two senior caps during November's international break. City fans are now questioning the decision to sell him for a modest transfer fee in comparison to his peers.
Chelsea have spent a fortune to sign the likes of Moises Caicedo (£115m), Enzo Fernandez (£107m), Mykhaylo Mudryk (£89m) and Welsey Fofana (£70m) in the last 18 months. Yet Palmer has arguably had a greater impact at Stamford Bridge than all of those stars.
Many City fans believe they've been short-changed by Chelsea... and the bad news continues. According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea paid City £40m up front for Palmer, with £2.5m set to come in add-ons - but there is no sell-on clause included in the deal.

City have benefitted from sell-on clauses before. They received a chunk of the £42million Tottenham gave Sporting Lisbon for Pedro Porro in January 2023, and they picked up a cheque for £12m after Romeo Lavia's switch from Southampton to Chelsea in August.
The most famous clause involving City was that tied to Jadon Sancho. The Premier League champions received more than £10m after the England international's £73m switch from Borussia Dortmund to their local rivals Manchester United in July 2021.

Yet there will be no pay day if Palmer leaves Chelsea. City's failure to include a sell-on in Palmer's deal may have something to do with the fact he joined Chelsea. The Blues are one of Europe's biggest clubs and rarely see their brightest stars poached by others.
In comparison, there was always a good chance Porro, Lavia and Sancho would leave Sporting, Southampton and Dortmund respectively for a richer club. If his early Chelsea career is anything to go by, Palmer won't be leaving Stamford Bridge anytime soon.
"He is 21 and been there for five minutes and is a regular and main players in that team he looks so confident," said Alan Shearer on Match of the Day after Chelsea's thrilling 4-4 draw with City earlier this month, a game which Palmer scored a late penalty in.
"When all this is going on with the penalty he is the calmest man in the stadium. No pressure at all for him. he was superb and magnificent. It was a good deal for both parties, City and him, no way he would be a regular at City. They got good money for him."
