A savvy Brit bagged a return flight to Romania for just £32 to enjoy a 24 hour spa break - which she says was £100 cheaper than in the UK.

Rebecca Kellet, 37, and her best friend, Sam Martin, 34, flew from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest, Romania, at 10am on November 19, 2023. The pair then headed to their hotel - which cost them £40 each - and visited a few bars before their spa visit.

The following day Rebecca and Sam visited the Therme Spa in Bucharest, Romania - which set them back £25.85 each. In total, for flights, accommodation and the spa, the trip cost the pair £97.85 each - which they say is £100 cheaper than their usual spa day in the UK.

Rebecca, a gift company business owner, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, said: "Every year for Sam's birthday I always arrange a spa day. "I usually take her to a place in Preston but their prices have gone up recently and they have changed the rules so you don't get as long in the spa. I saw the spa in Romania and found cheap flights. As it fell on a Sunday you can get away with only taking one-day annual leave."

The pair flew from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Henri Coandă International Airport on Sunday. Once they arrived in Bucharest, the pals went to a few bars for a few drinks and walked around the old town. On Monday, Rebecca and Sam went to the spa where they spent the entire day - got a facial and massage - before travelling back to the UK on Tuesday morning.

Rebecca said: "The cost was incredible and the fact that it is a full one-day holiday. "You check in the spa at 10am and you can stay until 11pm. Usually when you go to a spa you can only get a few hours and here you have the whole day."

Rebecca is known for her cost-cutting holidays and has gone viral in the past for her solo travelling on a budget with her vlog "NorthernBlondeAbroad". Previously she's managed to snag £15 return flights to Portugal, £11 flights to Italy and a family holiday to Center Parcs in Belgium saving £600.

Despite the fact you have to schlep through an airport, likely early at the morning, more and more people are opting for very short trips abroad.

One woman who is a particular fan of the practice is Ellie Cresswell, who works short holidays into her trips home. She regularly finds herself having to travel from her home in London to Manchester, where her family live. When she does, she faces forking out £60 each way.

"We all know how unreliable and expensive the trains are in the UK," Ellie told the Mirror. "Instead now I do an extreme day trip to travel between London and Manchester. I take the first flight of the day out of London to somewhere that also offers a cheap flight out at the end of the day to Manchester. That way I get to spend most of the day in a new destination," the 26-year-old explained.

So far the enthusiastic adventurer has stopped off in Denmark during a trip home, as well as going via Latvia.

"I live in London, but go to Manchester on a bi-weekly basis to visit family, so I try to fit in visiting a new European destination as a day trip for each stopover. Last month I flew from London to Manchester for £37 via Billund Denmark and got to spend the day eating gorgeous Danish pastries, at Legoland Denmark and Lalandia waterpark," the accountant continued.

Rather than bidding farewell to a chunk of her hard earned cash to run the Avanti West Coast gauntlet, the canny traveller took the long way round and used the cash to enjoy her day out. "I spent about another £30 on spending money (including food) whilst there. However, this
