Jose Mourinho hints at next job as he makes plans for life after Roma exit

Jose Mourinho has hinted that he will move to the Saudi Pro League as he prepares to leave Roma in the summer.

Mourinho has enjoyed a successful spell in the Italian capital, but his reign is expected to end when his current contract expires at the end of the season. With the legendary boss set to be a free agent, his next destination is in the spotlight.

There have been suggestions he could return to Real Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti expected to take over as Brazil boss next summer. But Mourinho has now called for the Italian to stay at the Bernabeu and revealed he is instead eyeing a move to Saudi Arabia.

“I’ll tell you the truth, I think I’ll go there one day. But when I say ‘one day’ I don’t mean tomorrow or the day after," Mourinho told RAI1 when asked about managing in the Middle East state.

“Me at Real Madrid? When you have a super coach, why should you think of another? Knowing Don Florentino, and I know him very well, he is a super intelligent man. If he reads the press he has his very clear ideas.

"As a Madridista, as a man who has some white ribs, and as an Ancelottian, I hope that the season goes fantastically and that next season Carlo is still there, because I think he is the perfect coach for Real Madrid.”

While he won the Europa Conference League in his first season, this campaign has been more difficult, with Roma seventh in Serie A. But Mourinho has been defensive of his work since arriving to huge fanfare in the summer of 2021.

“Our group is very united. The energy is very good. The people in the dressing room are good, we all have our flaws, but we are a good working group. Are Roma criticized too much? Yes, we get criticized too heavily and are not protected enough," he added.

"Roma are criticized too much and so is Mourinho. A small example: our journey to the Europa League final was very easy according to many critics. Look at what Red Bull Salzburg is doing in the Champions League, Real Sociedad in the Champions League and in the league.

"Feyenoord what they are doing in the Champions League, they are still fighting, Bayer Leverkusen look at what they are doing… I think the last match they lost was in Rome. If there was another coach, another club with another profile, the story would be completely different.

“For me it’s not a problem from a personal point of view. But I think it’s a problem for Roma as a club, because they deserve much more. I think it’s also a problem for the fans, who also deserve much better. My relationship with the city is special.

"I feel the desire and the professional responsibility, a sense of pride, but here there is something more to it than that. These people make you tremble, they make you feel special. I love these people. I have no problem in saying that Roma is very special for me.”
