Is this the world’s most famous horse? Twinkle the Pony has amassed more than 100 million TikTok views and 500,000 followers for his hilarious videos, posted by owner Eirinn Reid, 22.

The clips show Twinkle pulling faces and following people around like a dog, and have even won him celebrity fans including pop star Jason Derulo and online influencers the Sidemen.

Eirinn, from North Berwick, Scotland, has owned Twinkle since she was 15. At first, she shared her pictures and videos with friends and family, but their delighted reactions prompted her to share them online in 2020 - and a social media sensation was born.

“Twinkle was my first pony,” says Eirinn. “He was around 10, and he’d had a rough start to life.

“He had had so many owners before me in such a short space of time and had a lot of trust issues. I think he’d been passed from pillar to post because he was so quirky. I have always loved posting pictures and videos of my horses because I love to keep the photos as memories.

“Twinkle’s videos always made me, my friends and my mum laugh, so sharing them with other people to make them laugh was a no-brainer. If he was a person, he’d probably be a comedian. He makes everybody laugh. Everyone that’s met him says they’ve never met such a witty horse – he’s a real character.”

Eirinn’s videos feature Twinkle in a variety of situations – with the most popular showing him twisting his head to the side and looking directly into the camera. Eirinn adds: “I was a bit overwhelmed at first – I really didn’t expect a horse to be able to reach that many people worldwide.

“One of Jason Derulo’s assistants contacted me last week and asked if they could get permission to use Twinkle’s video in a YouTube clip for his channel. I thought the more people that can see Twinkle, the better.”

Hen parties welcome at all-inclusive 'hennel'

A woman has opened an all-inclusive, five-star hotel for chickens, complete with gourmet food including porridge and corn treats, and classical music.

Katriona Shovlin, who has eight of her own birds, launched her woman-only 'hennels' after noticing a gap in the market. She allows hens and ducks to her retreat in Upchurch, Kent - but has had to refuse roosters due to noise problems.

She charges £3 per bird per day - for which they get soft bedding, a full menu and unlimited access to a Wendy house and swings. Soothing tunes play on a loop and there is a dust bath where the chickens can wash.

Animal science graduate Katriona, 31, said: "I would say the food products I use and activities I have do make it five-star.”

Her own birds are kept separate from other visiting flocks. Katriona said: "Hens can't be mixed because a flock is a flock and they're very territorial. So they're away from mine out of sight. It's a very peaceful, non-stressful environment."

When Jeanette Stevens’ house was flooded during Storm Babet last month, she was heartbroken that all her guide dog Koko’s toys and bedding were destroyed.

But thanks to kind-hearted locals and volunteers, Koko has been inundated with gifts to replace everything she lost, and more.

Jeanette, from Carlton-on-Trent, Notts, said: “We had to throw most of Koko’s toys and bedding in the bin as they were covered in sewage, and I was just in tears.

“My husband said the way Koko looked as we were throwing away her things was heartbreaking. I felt awful for her, so I put a post on a Guide Dogs community Facebook group as I just wanted a virtual hug. I never expected the response we received.”

In the end, Koko was sent more than £400 worth of gifts and donations. Jeanette added: "It was like Christmas and her birthday all rolled into one. She was sticking her nose into all the presents trying to open them and wagging her tail.

“I don’t know how to thank everyone who sent us something, but I can say they have given us hope and happiness.”
