Barclays to shut another 16 branches in new blow to high streets - see full list
Barclays has revealed plans to close an extra 16 branches by the end of March 2024. Customers relying on stores in Eltham, Farnham, and Borehamwood were among those expected to either go online or head to their second-nearest branch.
It means Barclays would be closing almost 200 bank branches across 2023 and 2024, according to MoneySavingExpert. More than a third of its entire UK network would be shut down since the start of this calendar year.
If your local Barclays branch is closing, you can still access face-to-face help. There are 200 pop-up banking sites across the country, including in community centres and libraries. You could also deposit cash or cheques at your local post office, as well as withdraw money.
But if you're tempted to leave Barclays and bank elsewhere, it's worth noting that a number of other banks announced store closures this year.
HSBC, Halifax, NatWest, Santander, and TSB will all be shutting down branches. It's therefore vital to check for your nearest bank branch before taking the plunge and signing up elsewhere.
