Lidl is recalling a popular own-brand chocolate product - and has given customers an urgent 'do not eat' warning.

A new statement from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said Fin Carré White Chocolate in 100g with a best before date of 16 October 2024 should be returned to the supermarket, because it may contain pieces of plastic. The possible presence of plastic makes the chocolate bar "unsafe to eat", they added. Notices announcing the recall will now be shown in all Lidl stores, and customers will be able to bring affected products to the supermarket in exchange for a full refund.

An announcement from the FSA read: "Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.

"If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. Any customers with queries or concerns can contact Lidl Customer Services on 0203 966 5566 or [email protected]."

A customer notice from Lidl said no other Fin Carré products are affected by the recall. A similar recall notice has also been issued in the Republic of Ireland, where the Food Safety Authority warned of the "possible presence of plastic pieces" in the chocolate bar, which is produced in Germany. The Mirror have approached Lidl GB for comment.
