Eddie Murphy is coming back to revive his most iconic role, Axel Foley, in the new Beverly Hills Cop movie set to be released next year- 30 years after the last film of the cop comedy franchise was released, way back in 1994.

The 62-year-old actor and comedian is featured in the world-first photo from this fourth instalment, titled Beverly Hills Cop: Alex Foley, shared on social media by Empire Magazine. The image appears to show Axel holding his hands up while emerging from what looks like a tipped over car.

In an interview with the magazine, Jerry Bruckheimer, long-time producer of the movie franchise, which grossed over $558 million at the U.S. box office alone, promised a prime performance from Eddie, who was just 22 when he first played Axel.

The producer praised Mel B's ex's brilliance, gushing: “Anytime he walks on set, you never know what you’re going to get- and it’s always pretty brilliant.”

The sequel is directed by newcomer Mark Molloy and was written by Aquaman script genius Will Beall. Eddie is set to be joined by a star-studded cast in this long-awaited instalment of Axel Foley action, set to be released on Netflix, with Kevin Bacon playing an LAPD special-unit officer and Taylour Paige on board as Foley’s criminal defence attorney daughter.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will also be joining as Axel’s new partner- a hysterical duo which Jerry promises will have us in stitches, adding “Joseph is such a great straight man for Eddie.”

Original cast members are also set to return alongside the Doctor Dolitte star. Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot will all reprise their roles as Billy Rosewood, Jeffery Friedman, John Taggart, and Surge.

As well as gags and action, Jerry guarantees real emotion and serious underpinnings in his greatly anticipated movie, adding “No matter how funny it is, how much great action it has, it’s all about the heartstrings.”

The sequel has been a long time in the pipeline and was set for imminent release way back in 2016. After years of delays, rewrites and even moving from Paramount Pictures to Netflix, it looks like it’s finally ready.
