Urgent hunt for mum and newborn baby missing after car broke down on motorway
Police have launched a desperate hunt for a couple who disappeared with their newborn baby after their car broke down near the M61.
Constance Marten and Mark Gordon had been travelling on the motorway when their vehicle broke down near junction four last night (Thursday).
The force believe that Constance had given birth 'very recently' and neither she nor the baby had been seen by medics.
Officers have now issued a direct plea to the new mother, asking her to contact emergency services.
The couple and their baby are thought to have left the motorway safely after the breakdown, Manchester Evening News reports.

Mark Gordon is also missing (GMP)Police said they were spotted walking on Anchor Lane Bridge, which links the Highfield and Little Hulton areas, but have since vanished.
Mark was wearing dark clothing and Constance — who has a southern accent — was wearing a burgundy coat.
Officers said the baby had also been wrapped in a blanket.
The missing family were last seen at around 6:30pm yesterday and police are becoming increasingly concerned about their whereabouts.

"Constance, I know this is an exceptionally hard time for you and you are likely feeling scared but I promise that our number one priority is the same as yours - to keep your beautiful newborn safe.
Sightings of the couple should be reported to the police via 999 (Google Maps)"As you know, it's really important that both you and your baby are assessed by medical professionals as soon as possible so please make contact with emergency services or make your way to your nearest hospital, wherever that may be."
The police chief also issued a plea to the public, adding: “I would also like to appeal to members of the public – not just in Bolton but across Greater Manchester and beyond. If you have any information about this family’s whereabouts, please do nothing more than contact emergency services.
"GMP can be contacted via Live Chat on our website or 999. Even the most minor detail might help us keep this mum and baby safe.”
Police have asked members of the public to report any information or sightings of the couple immediately via 999, quoting 2657 05/01/23.
