Chelsea striker Sam Kerr revealed how she proposed to USWNT star Kristie Mewis through a series of heartening photos which captured the moment.

The football power couple have been together since 2020, after being introduced while playing for competing clubs in the US National Women’s Soccer League in 2019.

Romance rumours first stirred during the Tokyo Olympics the following year. Kerr, 30, confirmed the relationship when she posted a heart-warming photo of the high-profile duo kissing on Instagram after Mewis and the USWNT’s semi-final loss to the Matildas.

Despite the challenges of a cross-global relationship, Kerr and Mewis’ relationship has only continued to flourish, with both players making respective efforts to travel and watch the other in action as much as possible.

In September, the pair announced their engagement and Chelsea striker Kerr posted three heart-warming photos of the day to her Instagram account on Tuesday, with the caption: “September 1st, 2023.”

Kerr and Mewis, both sporting respective blue ensembles, were snapped in the sunshine as Kerr knelt down to a gleeful Mewis in shades. The photos arrived much to the delight of the couple’s loyal following, which has grown to hundreds of thousands as the footballers continue to document their relationship.

Mewis, who plays for NWSL side Gotham FC, remained in Sydney after the USWNT’s dumping out of the Women’s World Cup in the Round of 16 to support Kerr and the Matildas’ historic march to the semi-finals. She and Kerr shared an embrace after Australia ’s quarter-final victory over France via a penalty shoot-out.

Mewis was an unused substitute in Gotham FC’s 2-1 victory over OL Reign in the NWSL final earlier this month.

Kerr, who seems to have fully recovered from a shin injury suffered on the eve of the summer’s World Cup, is continuing her mission to claim a first-ever Champions League title with Chelsea as the reigning WSL champions host Paris FC in a group stage match on Thursday.
