Jamie Lynn Spears insisted that she wanted to ‘be herself’ before she entered the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle - but a brutal backlash against the star has deemed she is being disingenuous in the camp.

The 32-year-old American star is most famous for being the younger sister of chart superstar Britney Spears, 41. The famous sisters have taken brutal swipes at each other in recent months having both published bombshell autobiographies.

Britney had the most recent hit with her own book - in which she branded Jamie Lynn as a “total b***h” and described her as ungrateful and spiteful after the I’m A Slave 4 U singer bought her sister and parents a luxury house to live in. Jamie Lynn, who is herself an actress and singer in the USA, said she hoped her time in the jungle would allow fans a chance to get to see the real her.

She said in her pre-entry interview: “There is literally every misconception you can have on a person about me, so I don’t take any of it too seriously. I do think going on I’m A Celebrity will be a nice way for people to see the real me.

“This is an opportunity to be myself and do something really cool and have an awesome experience in the meantime.” She also explained that it would be hard for her to be away from her own children; five-year-old daughter Ivey who she shares with 51-year-old husband Jamie Watson, and 15-year-old daughter Maddie, from a previous relationship.

Jamie Lynn siad: “This will be the longest I have ever been apart from my children. My oldest daughter is like, ‘OMG I can’t wait to see you do these trials and laugh at you’.

“But she also said: ‘I’m really proud of you for doing something for yourself’. This will be the longest I have ever been apart from my children and the furthest. But they are going to come over to Australia and it will be a wonderful reunion when I come out.”

She also said: “I think my best quality is the fact that it takes a lot to hurt my feelings. Unless you are my children or my immediate family, nothing is going to hurt me. I can take a lot of shit and it doesn’t get me down, so I really think it’s a good quality to have in a place where a lot of stuff is thrown at you!”

Fan reaction to Jamie Lynn has not been kind, however, with many lashing out at her via social media since she began competing on the show on Sunday night. Many have suggested she has a ‘game plan’ to try to change perceptions of her after Britney’s book portrayed her as manipulative and devious.

She was asked by co-star Josie Gibson if she preferred acting over singing, and Jamie Lynn responded: "I like acting, music is so personal. It takes so much more out of you, like with acting, you're like escaping it to be another character. I love playing like a character that people want to hate but they end up liking, you know."

TV fans saw this as proof she had a game plan, with one tweeting: "The way Jamie Lynn said ‘I love playing a character that people want to hate but end up loving’ if that’s a hint, then you got it wrong honey.” And another concurred, writing: "Why do i feel like jamie lynn saying ‘i love playing a character people hate at first then realise they like’ is foreshadowing."
