England stars Mary Earps, Rachel Daly, Georgia Stanway and Millie Bright have been named among a 20-player shortlist for this year's Dubai Globe Soccer Awards Best Women's Player of the Year.

The awards will take place alongside the 18th Dubai International Sports Conference on January 19 at the five-star Atlantis, The Palm.

This year's Ballon d'Or and World Cup winner Aitana Bonmati the hot favourite to win the latest laurel. A similarly prestigious group of women's players from last month's honours have been named among the nominations for the 14th edition of the star-studded Dubai Globe Soccer Awards, with the top 10 Feminin finishers named among this year's nominations.

Barcelona and Spain star Alexia Putellas was crowned the Best Women's Player of 2022 last year to culminate an impressive year for the goal-scorer as she was also named the Ballon d'Or Feminin winner for the second year running.

The 29-year-old was not named among this year's selection for either award having missed most of last season due to an ACL injury.

Spanish playmaker Bonmati impressively filled the Putellas-shaped gap in the Barcelona and Spain squad as she was crowned FIFA's Golden Ball winner after Spain's unprecedented World Cup triumph. She was also named Uefa's player of the year in August after helping Barcelona to a second Champions League title. The title formed part of a treble for the Spanish giants.

All four Lionesses were among the nominations for this year's Ballon d'Or Feminin, though only Manchester United and England No 1 Mary Earps and Rachel Daly managed to break into the top 10, with the summer's Golden Glove winner finishing fifth in the final vote and last season's WSL Golden Boot winner finishing 10th.

Meanwhile England's World Cup skipper Millie Bright ended up 11th in the vote. Georgia Stanway finished 23rd, just behind Arsenal and Ireland star Katie McCabe who claimed 22nd place.
