Dash cams are perhaps the perfect present for petrolheads this Christmas. They can be a great way to cover your back if you're involved in an accident, or they could just provide you with some funny content if you spot something unusual on your journey.

And that's probably why Amazon seems to be having a bit of a blitz at the moment, discounting some of its most popular dashcams in the run-up to Black Friday.

This has meant there are some big bargains to be had, with some on offer at less than half their original price.

It means there's probably never been a better time to invest in a dash cam, but the choice on Amazon is absolutely vast - so I've spent some time trawling through the listings to pick out the ones I think will serve you best.

Here's my round-up of the hot-deal highlights.

ORSKEY Dash Cam - was £69.99, now £28.89

Amazon has dropped the price of dozens of dash cams and I've picked out the bestORSKEY Dash Cam - was £69.99, now £28.89

This is billed as Amazon's Choice, it has a 4.4-star rating out of more than 14,000 reviews, and it has a massive discount - so it could be the best option on this list.

And at less than £30 (if you apply a 15% voucher) for a 1080P dash cam with a three-inch display, night vision, motion detection and a G-sensor, it's clear to see why it's so popular. A proper bargain.

Navycrest Dash Cam - was £79.99, now £36.99

Amazon has dropped the price of dozens of dash cams and I've picked out the bestNavycrest Dash Cam - was £79.99, now £36.99

This one is less than half price. At less than £40, it looks really good, and nearly 2,000 reviews have offered up a four-star score overall, which is promising.

I like the fact it's quite compact, that's a good thing for smaller cars, and the resolution and frame rate aren't exactly top-notch, but at this price, it's hard to argue.

Ssontong Dash Cam - was £59.99, now £27.99

Amazon has dropped the price of dozens of dash cams and I've picked out the bestSsontong Dash Cam - was £59.99, now £27.99

It comes with an SD card, it has a three-inch display, it's full HD, and it's got the key features. At less than £30 (if you apply a 30% voucher) this one is well worth a look.

With nearly 4,000 reviews yielding a 4.4-star rating, it's no wonder it's earned itself an Amazon Choice badge.

The suction-pad mounting will divide opinion, and some reviewers suggest the app is a bit mediocre, but that's to be expected from an unbranded dash cam. You do get what you pay for.

Vlokda Dual Dash Cam - was £52.99, now £24.99

Amazon has dropped the price of dozens of dash cams and I've picked out the bestVlokda Dual Dash Cam - was £52.99, now £24.99

No, I've never heard of "Vlodka" either, but this one has a big saving (remember to tick the 50% voucher box) and, importantly, it's a very cheap dual camera version. That means you can record forward views and an interior view.

The spec sheet looks pretty impressive, and it does have a display on it, but bear in mind there's only 52 ratings. Four stars overall isn't bad though.

IBAYE Dash Cam Front and Rear - was £49.99, now £26.99

Amazon has dropped the price of dozens of dash cams and I've picked out the bestIBAYE Dash Cam Front and Rear - was £49.99, now £26.99

A £13 voucher, on top of the 20% saving, makes this quite a tempting deal. It has all the key features you'd expect from a dash cam, and it also has a rear camera bundled in to the package.

While the front-facing main camera looks good (and I like that big display) the rear camera looks cheap and generic, so don't expect miracles. But £27 is absurdly cheap for a dual dash cam, and a 4.6-star rating is very promising.

iZEEKER Dash Cam - was £49.99, now £19.99

Amazon has dropped the price of dozens of dash cams and I've picked out the bestiZEEKER Dash Cam - was £49.99, now £19.99

If you tick the £10 voucher box, this feature-rich dash cam is less than £20. That makes it the cheapest in this list, and possibly the best bargain. Possibly.

If you think it looks familiar, then that's because it's styled similarly to the Thinkware range. It's not a shape that will thrill anyone, but it is small, and the fact it sticks to the window with a sticky pad is a bonus. A 4.3-star rating is also an eye-catching bonus too.

Nextbase 222 Dash Cam - was £89.99, now £75

Amazon has dropped the price of dozens of dash cams and I've picked out the bestNextbase 222 Dash Cam - was £89.99, now £75

The first familiar brand to appear in this line up has a healthy saving over its RRP, and Nextbase really does know how to make a decent dash cam. So if quality is your priority and you don't mind paying a little more, this discount should be on your radar.

Compared to some of the others, it's a bit basic in terms of features, but buying into a branded dash cam should pay dividends in the long run, especially if you need support or you rely on decent instructions.

VANTRUE N4 3 Channel Dash Cam - was £269.99, now £183.99

Amazon has dropped the price of dozens of dash cams and I've picked out the bestVANTRUE N4 3 Channel Dash Cam - was £269.99, now £183.99 - Amazon

This might seem like a lot of money at just over £180 (as long as you apply a £46 voucher) but, trust me, three channels at this price is extremely good value. That means one to face forward, one for the interior, and one facing backwards.

It's a complete setup, then, and the price is usually £270, so you're saving £100 at the moment.

Vantrue is a familiar brand, the buyers who have reviewed it seem very happy with it, and there's plenty of features on this model. It's certainly impressive.

You can also find dash cams on the likes of Halfords.
