Sally Nugent's absence sparked concern this morning as she misses BBC Breakfast again following her recent health struggles.

The 52-year-old, who usually hosts the show at the start of the week alongside colleague Jon Kay, didn't appear today as Sarah Campbell instead stepped in on Monday. There was no reason given with Sally's absence not mentioned by the presenters earlier today.

Sally also missed the show late last month as Sarah again got the call. She had appeared hoarse while reading the headlines with Lemsip spotted beside her in the studio. Also last month she was forced to take some time off after being struck down by the flu as viewers urged her to get some rest.

It's been a challenging year for her after she and husband Gavin Hawthorne decided to separate in May after 13 years of marriage. The couple share a teenage son. According to friends, they are said to be "moving in different directions" and decided it was the best move to call it a day.

"It's very sad but they are no longer together," a source close to the pair told MailOnline earlier this summer. "I think they tried to tough it out for quite a while as they didn't want to split up if they could possibly help it for the sake of their son but they clearly couldn't make a go of it.

"They've both been very guarded about the reasons behind their growing apart but it's been plain for a while that they had been and now it's obvious that they haven't been able to resolve that despite clearly trying for some time." The decision came after she was given a huge career boost.

She replaced Louise Minchin, who bid an emotional farewell to BBC Breakfast, and her co-host Dan Walker, in September 2021. When Louise stepped down from BBC Breakfast, Sally replaced the presenter and joined Dan on the sofa until he subsequently left the programme to join Channel 5.

Sally said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to become the new presenter of BBC Breakfast and bring the nation the latest news, top entertainment guests and stories that matter every week. It's an honour to take the reins from Louise and be part of the UK's most-watched breakfast show.'
