The Yorkshire Vet star Matt Jackson-Smith and his wife Katherine has announced that they have welcomed their first baby.

Their little girl came into the world last last October and despite a minor complication at birth, the newborn is doing well. They confirmed Anastasia Maria Jackson-Smith was born at 2.21pm via a planned C-section, weighing 7lb 9oz and that she has already settled into their home near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

The couple already know about responsibility, sharing dog Harry, a snake called Storm and Dennis the bearded dragon. Mum and dad, who star on the Channel 5 show together, say she has lit up their life and they explained why they picked the name and say what they will refer to her as.

Matt said: "We bought a baby book for some inspiration and toyed over a couple, but when we spotted Anastasia we fell in love right away. Plus, we later realised, it’s the name my mum was planning to call me if I was a girl. Katherine also liked what Anastasia was when shortened – so she calls her Annie."

He added to OK! Magazine : "When she was born, she fit her name perfectly… a cheeky Annie. She also has a middle name, Maria, after Katherine’s grandmother, who was called Eva Maria. Katherine’s maternal side is German and her grandmother, when she was just 12 years old, had to flee with her mother – Katherine’s great-grandmother – for safety. We wanted to pay tribute to that.

"We brought Anastasia home on my birthday. Her due date was October 28 but she was born on the 25th – via a planned C-section as that was what Katherine opted for and I fully supported that decision – and my birthday is on the 26th. The birth itself went pretty smoothly. We went to the hospital in the morning and she was born in the afternoon.

"The only worrying time was when they struggled to get Anastasia out of the C-section wound, but thankfully she arrived happy and healthy. I was there for the birth and then was told to head home. So the next day I woke up early and went straight back to the hospital. It was the best present ever."

The pair had the animal-themed baby nursery ready a long time and, complete with handmade gift from the show's fans. The programme is a huge hit, and follows vets Peter Wright, Julian Norton and Matt s they help animals in need at their practices based in North Yorkshire.

Viewers love watching the colleagues tirelessly care for the creatures to ensure they can help as many animals as possible - and they range from regular pets to wild animals. It has been staple viewing for many people since 2015 and recently reached series 16 with more people tuning in that ever.
