At least one person is said to have suffered "life-changing" injuries following a dog attack in a village in the Welsh county of Gwynedd.

Four people were attacked by a dog in the Rhoshirwaun area at around 11:30am on Friday. Emergency services attended the scene which subsequently resulted in one person being airlifted to Aintree University Hospital and another to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, both with serious injuries. A further two people sustained minor injuries.

Pen Draw Llŷn Councillor Gareth Williams says the two taken to hospital suffered serious injuries that are "life-changing" for at least one if not both of the victims. No further updates have been provided yet as to the breed of the dog involved, reports Daily Post.

Following the incident, a total of 37 dogs and a number of cats have been seized from the address. The dog involved in the incident was destroyed and is yet to be examined by a vet to establish the breed, North Wales Police (NWP) have said. There continued to be a police presence in the area on Saturday as enquiries continued, according to NWP.

Cllr Gareth Williams said: "The incident has shocked the community. Everyone's asking the same question at the moment which is why were there 37 dogs at the property? People are concerned because there's a public footpath that runs through the property and there are homes nearby as well - what's happened is disturbing enough, but it could've been much worse. I think I can speak on behalf of the community when I say I hope the 37 dogs seized will not be allowed to return."

Asked about the condition of the two who were flown to hospital with serious injuries following the attack, Cllr Williams said: "I was told by police that the situation isn't life-threatening for those who were attacked, but the injuries are life-changing for at least one of them, if not both. We are awaiting further updates from the police on the breed of the dog involved and the 37 that were seized."

Chief Superintendent Sian Beck said on Saturday: “We understand this was a concerning incident in the local area and wish to reassure the community that there is no further risk to the wider public. We have launched a joint investigation with the RSPCA and are appealing for anyone who may have information about the dogs located at the property to contact us.

“We would like to thank members of the local community for their patience and support whilst we were in attendance at this incident.”
