Glastonbury Festival fans have reacted angrily to ticket site errors after the £355-per-head event sold out completely on Sunday morning.

Tickets had previously been scheduled to go on sale on November 5, but bosses delayed matters at the time to "ensure that everyone who would like to buy a ticket is registered and therefore eligible to purchase". Now, the iconic event, which is rumoured to be headlined by the likes of Madonna, Taylor Swift and Coldplay, has seen all of its 200,000 tickets snapped up in less than an hour.

A statement on the festival's X account (formerly Twitter) read on Sunday morning: "Tickets for Glastonbury 2024 have now Sold Out. Our thanks to everyone who bought one and we're sorry to those of you who missed out, on a morning when demand greatly exceeded supply. There will be a resale of any cancelled or returned tickets in spring 2024."

After millions scrambled to secure their passage to Somerset's Worthy Farm from Wednesday 26 to Sunday 30 June, those who missed out hit out at ticket partner, See Tickets, and demanded changes to the ordering system. "We’ve got Blockchain technology, smart contracts, NFT’s and you’re still using @seetickets to provide the worst, most unreliable, energy consuming service out there," declared one frustrated music fan on X.

Another added: "I’m wondering why a festival so seemingly obsessed with sustainability is happy to let 2.5 million people repeatedly refresh several electronic devices for a total of 2.5 million hours when other available methods are fairer and less demanding."

A third commented: "Ballot is the only way forward, there are 1 million people at least trying of not more. Charge £5 donation to enter ballot, that's 5 million to good causes and will give everyone a better chance to get a ticket."

A fourth wrote: "Should be a rule that you can't go the following year if you've been the previous year to give people a chance. Some people have tried for decades and failed, while I see the same few people I know go almost every year."

And a fifth recommended: Imagine if @glastonburypartnered with @FairQueue to revolutionize ticket sales! Customers would experience a fairer and smoother process, ensuring everyone gets a chance to attend the legendary festival. Let's make ticket-buying stress a thing of the past!"

Unlike most festivals, Glastonbury chooses to keep the line-up mostly hidden until a couple of months before the festival begins. Generally, the first big batch of artists lands in March, although sometimes a handful of acts are confirmed beforehand – Elton John was announced for Glastonbury 2023 back in December 2022.

No official line-up has been announced yet but there have been plenty of rumours already. Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis hinted that the line-up for the five-day event in June is still "a little up in the air". However, she revealed she hopes there will be two female headliners.

Emily had previously revealed that the representatives for a "really big American artist" had recently reached out. Last month it was reported Madonna was in advanced talks to take to the stage at Glastonbury. The Glastonbury organiser has shared her love for Madonna on Instagram and recently watched the queen of pop at London's O2 Arena. Fans were left convinced this hint confirms Madonna will be headlining.

It has also been reported Bruce Springsteen could be taking to the Pyramid Stage next summer. His chances of returning to the world-famous event increased after he announced new tour dates. He will head to the UK and Ireland with his E Street Band in May and July. Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Pink are also favoured highly by bookmakers.
