A school lunch lady allegedly slapped a child on the head after he asked her what was on the menu for lunch and was later arrested, court documents show.

Leann Thomason is said to have made the boy cry, with him later reporting the incident to a school resource officer. The lunch lady hit the student because she was upset by the boy's question, it is alleged.

Thomason was working at Buffalo Gap Elementary School in Texas at the time of the incident. She was arrested on Friday and taken into custody in Taylor County, Texas.

Police records show she has been charged with injury to a child, a third degree felony in the state. It's unclear if Thomason was still working at the school at the time of her arrest.

Court documents reviewed by local NBC affiliate KRBC confirm that the incident occurred on February 21, 2023. Despite this, a complaint wasn’t filed until July 24 and on the same day a pre-indictment warrant was issued.

Thomason, who had been under investigation since February by a school resource officer, was released from jail after posting a bond of $8,000, according to KRBC. Court documents show that a student who claimed to have witnessed the incident told officials that “the lunch lady slapped [the victim] in the back of the head".

It is a third-degree felony to intentionally or knowingly cause bodily injury to a child in Texas. If found guilty, Thomason could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. Alternatively, she could be fined up to $10,000.
