A 38-year-old man was being questioned today on suspicion of abduction and murder after the body of a woman was found dumped in a small car park.

The suspect was arrested after detectives discovered the mystery woman's body sprawled in the car park in north Hertfordshire. The victim has not yet been identified but detectives from the Major Crime Team confirmed that she had been killed. It was believed a distinctive small white Ford Fiesta car may have been used to carry the woman's body to the car park.

A spokesman for the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit said that officers had launched a murder investigation. The body of a woman was found in a small car park area between Roe Green and Wallington around 8pm on Tuesday. Officers are working to establish the identity.

"A 38-year old man from Luton is currently in custody after being arrested on suspicion of abduction and murder. As part of the investigation, officers want to hear from anyone who saw a distinctive white Ford Fiesta with blue stripes being driven in the Cat Ditch Road area between 6pm and 8.30pm on Tuesday. An image has been released of the vehicle which ends in registration DXU."

Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins said: "We are working hard to identify the woman and trace her family who will be supported by our specially trained officers. As part of our investigation we would like to speak to anyone who saw the pictured vehicle in the Cat Ditch Road area. Please take a look at the image and get in touch if you saw it. We believe there are few vehicles of this type in the local area and so I would like to stress that we know the owner of this particular vehicle.

"I particularly want to ask anyone who was driving in the area with a dash cam to check their footage and get in touch if you spot the vehicle. If you have any other information that you think may help our investigation, please don't hesitate to get in touch."

The murder investigation is taking place under the codename of Operation Shant.
